I got this for my boyfriend who has been playing rugby for over a decade and is very into fitness. I wasn’t sure how helpful it would be for him, but he said it has been incredibly useful and has a lot of great information in it. Which makes me so happy that even with all his knowledge already he was able to find it useful.

Great book to help new rugby player
This was bought for my son as part of a Christmas gift. He says he loves all the ideas and tips this book has for a new rugby player to learn.

Good read for all fitness enthusiasts
Simple read. Provides some good ideas for conditioning and weightlifting. Recommend if you need to go back to the basics and get motivated again.

Worthless for rugby
Basic weight training information and program, nothing you cant find for free and better online. However if you want a compact program in your hands its a good starter. Don't buy this however if you actually want to have workouts specific to your position in rugby. I've never taken a look at the other books in this series, but i suspect that the workouts are almost all the same across any of the books( ulitmate guide to... football, cycling, etc). Really not worth the money for anyone who has experience in weightlifting or is looking to scrummage better, tackle harder or have a quicker sidestep

Do not buy this book
Doing you a massive favour here by telling you not to buy this book. Unfortunately I couldn't give this book a no star rating, because that's what it should be. I have been a rugby player for over 20 years and have played to a very high level including international. Fortunately I am also a highly qualified strength and conditioning coach. This book has nothing to do with preparing a rugby player for the game. This book is really of poor quality and value. It is obvious that these programs are very generalized and very little work has been put into them. I really do not understand why an author would try and write something on a topic they know little or nothing about. Do yourself a favour and keep your money in your pocket. Also whoever the person is that is claiming to be a rugby coach and gave this book a 5 star rating, should not be a coach and would be better off staying out of the game.

Not really a rugby book
The book claims that a bench press is a back exercise, when it’s clearly not.This is more bodybuilding focus, nothing athletic about it whatsoever.Some good info but very basic.

WEIGHT TRAINING FOR RUGBY
I was disapointed in the exercise selection and programs in the book. i taught there would be more power exercise featured with a formula for inserting them into programs as these are he mainstay of most pre season rugby programs
