Excellent purchase
I just received this mat a few days ago. It is the first mat I have ever bought for myself for hobby purposes, but I used to use several other brands in much larger sizes in a signage shop a decade ago. I am very satisfied with all of the printed measurements and angle guides. In my case, my hobby desk is a smooth topped office desk that I can't even remember where it came from. It was free, and that's why I have it. In my situation, the back is too smooth to stay in place when I apply any sorts of pressure while cutting or even leaning on it. This is not a problem with the mat, but with my desk. I am currently researching the easiest way to immobilize the mat without causing it to float too far above my desk surface. I would recommend this mat to friends and I would buy the same or a larger size again if I needed to. Mine was packaged securely in a large box and was not bent or rolled in any way.

Good mat, wrong size.
The mat itself did not meet the 18x24 advertisement. The cutting area only has grids for 15x20". Actual mat measured 17 3/4"x 23 5/8". Thick mat at about 2 millimeters. If it was 18x24 gridded area I would keep it if it would stay flat. Also not chemically smell with mine. The package arrived a week late due to weather, but the box was too small and the mat arrived bent and will not stay flat even with weights.

Great product for a good price.
This cutting mat was much better than I expected. I think it will probably outlast me ! There are rulers, diagrams, and conversion charts printed in it's face. This one was more for an airplane or military modeler as far as the information shown, but that does not matter to me, although I will be building models on it. I wish I had bought one of these years ago. When you do cut into the mat with say, an Xacto blade, it does seem to heal itself some. On this particular mat, the price is very inexpensive compared to it's size and the value of the product. It's a great deal all around.

So useful!
So much better than cutting on a bare desk, trying not to gouge the surface. I don't know why I didn't buy one of these years ago. The square lines makes building a model frame so much easier. The diagrams and reference info is nice to have, but the ink they are printed with can be a bit fragile and scratch off easily. I use it on my PC desk and it doubles as a mouse pad when I'm not cutting styrene on it.This mat should be a requirement for any hobby that requires cutting.

Great value for a practical item
First hobby mat I've ever owned, and it's a huge quality of life purchase. Makes keeping track of small pieces really easy, and keeps you from making nasty spills on your nice furniture. For the price you really can't go wrong with this mat, and you'll definitely appreciate how convenient it is for all aspects of the build process

NOT heat resistant at all!
I use this board to craft on.....it is very much NOT heat resistant. I was heating up some craft foam and Worbla on it with a heat gun, and the whole mat warped and bubbled up like bologna. Now I can't get it back to normal no matter what I do.

Much better quality than you'd expect for the price!
Absolutely better than advertised. With all the things you'd expect from a hobby mat & a little extra. The mat is substantial & just feels like quality. Buy it & you won't regret it. One word of advice though, lacquer thinner will remove the printing on the one side. Fortunately it's double sided with the opposite side being blank. They thought of everything!

Not Required but makes you feel like a modeler.
Very nice. Only problem was by accident I splashed some lacquer thinner on the surface and found out it dissolves the ink print. But let the thinner evaporate dry, and then buffed it out after fully dry. That saved it and still looks new.

Good price, but product not as advertised.
"This is a Self Healing Work Top Mat" is what the sellers of this item say in the description. Not true! Even with light pressure, every line/hole/scrape I make on this mat shows up and doesn't go away.*edit* One serious downside I noticed just a little while ago is that the measurements on the mat aren't accurate! If you're only going to be using the mat for cutting on or using the printed measurements, it should work fine for you. When I am doing my leatherworking, I used the printed inches for my border cutouts, and a ruler for my bends, notches, etc. This creates uneven measurements throughout my projects. As someone who strives to make quality products, this is a huge drawback for me. I won't be buying one of these mats again. The print on the mat is extremely clear, the cutting action itself is really nice, knives glide through the material with little effort, but the fact that I can see exactly where I have been working is a major disappointment.

Great mat. However I got my heat gun a little close to it and it got a little warped and doesn't lay flat anymore in that area.
