Old question but here is an updated answer: Adding the AcuRite Access and you can connect with the internet and more. I have mine registered with Weather Underground.

The unit is the thermometer....it is self contained ....lightning detector can be put remote location...NOT very accurate....wish I hadnt bought this....customer service stinks
