Good for a quick overview
I plan to visit Hawaii for just a few days as part of a longer multi-country tour. Therefore, I was looking for a book that would give me a good overview, without burying me in detail. This book filled that need. In general, I like the DK books and have used them extensively in the past in my travels. While this book is not one of DK's best efforts, it still contains many of the DK features which make their books top notch in my opinion. For examply, like all DK books this one is extremely well orgainized and easy to use.If you are not an American citizen and not familiar with the USA, this may not be the book for you. However, for the typical American tourist looking to spend a few days in our 50th state, this is a solid choice.

very informative
I love the Eyewitness travel guides. It has wonderful maps, and guides on places to stay and dine with a price guide included. It takes you on an island by island tour with places to see, and the descriptions and pictures are wonderful. There is also some history thrown in. It has a glossary of Hawaiian terms, a personal security and health guide, and a guide to transportation options. I am very pleased with this very thorough guide to a place we have never before visited.

The essential tevel book for Hawaii
DK's travel books are full of great pictures and usefull information that enable you to narrow down your choices while planning a trip. I used this guide to decide on what other island I would visit besides Oahu, and I picked Kauai over Maui because l like to hike. It's not a great resource for hotels (you can do that all online anyway), but they have enough information in them to make a purchase worth the money.

Good information with supporting photos
I have been to Hawaii several times so a lot of the general information was not new to me but reinforced everything I'd learned before. I needed a guide with updated information and the local map pages help place topics of discussion in their locations.

I always buy a DK travel guide before I go ...
I always buy a DK travel guide before I go on a trip. They really help you narrow down the things to see & do, especially in places that you aren't very familiar with.

Will come in handy on our trip in 2mths.
I wanted a guide that briefed me on what all the islands had to offer so I could make an informed decision. We plan to visit 2 islands and I wanted my 2 choices to be clearly different from each other. This guidebook has great maps, main attractions and beach information. Great pictures too.

Covers all the islands.
Most reviews of Hawaii cover one island. This writes about all the islands. It is easy to follow and gives a great overview.

Great pictures
As with other books in the series this has lots of good pictures for giving you a feel for what you can do. But as for actual planning of what to do and where to stay it's probably better to combine this with trip adviser or other similar websites. One things that seemed quite out of date was the part about the Saddle road on the Big Island. The picture is of the old army road, however it is now all a 2 lane road, which they are in the middle of upgrading.
