Stay away!!
Avoid at all costs! Took the tent out hiking on a 10 day trail, the fiber rod snapped in half on first night. Glad I had rope to tie broken ends together out in the wilderness.

it is an awesome tent. Very lightweight
Thought it had a footprint. Other than that, it is an awesome tent. Very lightweight, good on rain protection, easy to set up.I've used home wrap for the footprint - like the Tyvek stuff. Works great and you can throw it away after.

Excellent tent
Very good tent. Very light weight. If the tent is free standing design would be even better

Works as advertised, super easy to pitch and carry. I am 5'8" and I fit well with extra room for gear at my feet.

Fly Sucks, Tent itself is Awesome
Bought this through REI online which saved me. Got the 2016 lighter version. It is truly light and very packable. Tent body was very easy and quick to set up. It is not freestanding at all, but not a deal-breaker for me. The fly is where all my frustrations lie. Unpacking it when it arrived, the fly stuck to itself like Saran Wrap. I'd get a section unstuck and move to a different section only to have it stick again. I finally got it unstuck and aired it out and it was ok....then I took it to the mountains on an over-night. The tent again was easy to set up until I got to the fly. It stuck to itself again so bad, and in a light breeze with mosquitoes swarming my face, it took way too long to get it opened up and laid out over the tent! Getting in and out with the fly staked down, I noticed the top of the fly opening had a piece of material over I which made the height lower and harder for me to get in and out. Securing the hook-Velcro-hook-Velcro fly took a little bit of work and undoing the bottom hook to get out in the AM, required me to lean out of the tent with my hand in the dirt to reach the hook to get it undone. I emailed MSR immediately about the fly stickiness issue to see if there was something I could do about it, since I could deal with the other issues and loved the tent body, but after 2 emails without any reply for a month, I gave up and returned it to REI sadly. I hope they fix the fly so it's an overall great tent. And just a note, REI did not have the footprint for this tent, and when I asked them about it, they told me they were going to stop carrying the tent. Seems suspicious for something "redesigned". Since they don't carry it in my local store, I could not see if other tents had the same fly issue.

Not reliable, not worth the weight savings
Bought this tent and was instantly impressed by the weight and size. It seemed like it was going to be the perfect ultralight tent with a lot of features. I set it up in my back yard before my first trip just to be sure everything was in order. Then packed it up and headed out for a 4 day backpackibg trip. On night one setting up the tent one of the pole connectors had slipped into the center of the pole and it took me about 20 minutes of tapping and shaking to get it out. Then i had to tape it together to make it stay in place. By night 2, 2 more of the connectors had slid to the center of the poles and another 20-30 min trying to fix my brand new tent. 2 more nights and more of the same, by the end of my trip i was pretty upset, so i emailed MSR with detailed pictures and descriptions of my issues. They then asked me to mail the poles to them at my own expense so they could inspect the poles. Needless to say i will be returning this tent due to its lack of reliability and poor customer service from MSR, and purchasing a Big Agnes Copper Spur to replace it.

what were they thinking?!?!
Have been using this Spring and Summer in the Sierras. Nice little one person tent except for huge design flaw.I sleep in it with my 30# dog. Tight fit but we make it work. Easy to pitch (2-3 minutes, literally) which is nice if it's raining . . .unfortunately, you'll probably get wet anyway! . The fly door system with hooks/eyes and velcro is a BIG PROBLEM. If it's really windy, the velcro doesn't hold and it flaps like crazy. I now crry ear plugs. If it's windy AND raining, you're going to get wet unless do something extra. (I cover the fly with my rain parka -- what a hassle). Why they didn't put a zipper is beyond me. The weight difference would have been minimal.

Survived AT thru hike
My girlfriend and I used this tent for our thru hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2017. Very roomy for two. Split into two packs, it’s right there with the weight of a single ultralight tent. We were careful with the carbon poles, particularly when putting them together each night, but had no durability issues whatsoever. Rain, snow, wind, no issues at all.In my opinion, there is absolutely no better 3 person, double wall, non free-standing tent on the market.- PomPom
