Brainwavz S5 - you'll definitely be enjoying music more with these.
Updated 1/28/2015It was good while it lasted. After many hundreds of hours and traveling across the country and being shoved in my bag and dropped countless times, the left ear bud crapped out and now only produces about 20% of the sound as the right side. Of course all things fail, so it was a decent run of about 8 months of everyday use. I may consider buying another S5 if the price is right.Back to my Audio Eterna's.Although, I just so happened to have my Brainwavz M2 in my desk, and they are sounding pretty good for being about 3 years old. YMMV with the S5, and I'm not one to hold back when things go wrong.Updated 10/2/2014As promised this is an update to this review now that I have burned the S5 for way more than 150 hours (closer to 500 hours) and have been using them daily since 7/14. Started listening to Prince's latest two album release Plectruelectrum and Art Offical Age, the funk-acoustic/electro-modern sound from these albums definitely emphasize what is special about the S5.As a comparison, I put on my Westone 3 and Audio Eterna v2 IEM's which I haven't used in all that time, and it was like night and day how I have grown accustomed to the S5 sound curve.I can conclusively agree, the S5 is now my favorite of all time.Build wise they have held up for almost 3 months through all sorts of exercise, commuting, throwing them in the bag, etc...I stand by the claims of my original review and I am overly satisfied with the S5. FYI, I am not compensated for this review in any way, just a satisfied customer. Kudos to MP4 Nation and Brainwavz!Arrived today 7/14/2014 - (I will update this review after 150 hours burn in time)Total burn in time for this review is currently at 4 hours using the Comply ear tips.My first initial impression from listening to these IEMs after putting it through the paces with an array of music genres (Country, Rock, R&B, Jazz, Electro, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Pop, Classical, Funk, Reggae) is that there are some genres which excel more than others. In particular I listened to Eric Clapton "Unplugged (Remastered)" and Sarah Jaroz "Follow me down" albums, and I would say the S5 was made for Acoustic Live style of music (string instruments excel very well on these)High's and vocals are just right, not over sparkly as some would say, definitely smooth. Mid bass is not too bad either, kinda balanced actually. Sound stage is similar to a closed back headphone, not open at all, it feels like you are right in the action. There is no lack of bass, and probably sounds more like my Triple Fi 10 or Westone 3 IEMs on flat equalizer settings. If anything they are exactly what I wanted the successor to the Brainwavz M5s to sound like. It doesn't have that impactful warm bass like Fischer Audio Eterna V2 or Atrio Futuresonic MG7 or MG5. If you increase the 31Hz & 63Hz EQ settings they start to sound bass heavy without distorting and maintains some control. If you listen to Lorde's "Royals" or Karmin "Acapella" you'll start to hear a tiny bit of distortion with the bass turned up but it's not too bad. Most people will be able to enjoy them more EQ'd and I suspect that will be the case for anyone interested in getting these.I'm at work so I'm using a Dell M3800 laptop with the default Dell Maxx Audio controls, and for the most part this offers quite a bit of adjustment for any music I'm listening to. I'll be trying it out on other devices later and updating (Sansa Clip+, iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab) my impressions. I'll also try out a couple of headphone amps Fiio E6 and HeadRoom Total Bithead to see if there is any significant change to the experience. It is true, I'm a Brainwavz fanboy due to the incremental improvements made over the years and risks they take with designs, and I do own the Beta'a, M2, M5, HM5, R1 & R3 models. In truth, I'm more a headphone fanatic as I have been buying them for more than 25 years. My poor ears can no longer make out sounds above 11KHz. If I had to put any preference toward any, I have a warm place towards my Fischer Audio Eterna, as they still have that "just right" sound I enjoy with most of my music. The Brainwavz S5 does feel like it could be in my top 10 favorite over time and more burn in. I'm definitely impressed with the sound right out of the box, a much higher quality (closest to a Westone 3 in my opinion, and actually probably better) for the $100 price range. And yes it is pretty nicely made, and I agree other reviewers the L/R label is way too small to notice but I'm getting used to figuring out which one is which.Definitely a buy for what its worth, and if you have never bought, Brainwavz, the S5 is definitely a perfect introduction to the brand, it is the product of years of incrementally getting better and listening to their customers.

Great sound but horrible durability
I purchased these headphones on March 5th 2015. The sound for these headphones is great. And the addition of the comfy earplugs adds an extra level of noise isolation that they do a very good job and minimizing the effect of outside sound. However, there is one critical flaw that should be aware of if you are planning on purchasing these. The headphone plug is large and bulky, taking up about 1.5 inches in inflexible space that frequently causes it slightly bend when being removed from in an out of your pocket. And even though it looks like it is designed to bend to alleviate stress what ends up invariably happening is the connection of the flat cable to the plug ends up being damaged resulting in sound not going to one or both of the earpieces.Even though I purchased this one March, by the end of April they had already broken due to this design flaw. Fortunately, I contacted MP4Nation who were able to quickly replace them. However, it is now June and the same issue is happening with only getting sound in 1 ear again. These headphones are not durable at all, so if you are planning to for example use your phone to play music and then place it in your front pocket be aware that these will not last very long. I would suggest looking for other headphones with a better designed 3mm plug.

A Solid Pair of Earphones
For years I had been fairly content with buying 20 dollar Skullcandy earphones. While they did not sound that good, they were good enough for my daily commute via the NYC subway. The one main gripe I had with Skullcandy earphones was the poor longevity and the shoddy build quality, but to be fair these said earphones go for as low as 15 bucks these days so I wasn't going to cry over such a cheap investment. One day I just got tired of having to spend 15 dollars for a pair of earphones that were not going to withstand the test of time and the daily rigors of a NYC commute so I figured I would try a different brand of earphones that was still budget friendly but durable all rolled into one. Then came the Brainwavz Delta - I purchased the Brainwavz Delta almost one year ago and boy have they held up marvelously! I have abused them and I even used them in heavy snow and they are still kicking! I was so impressed with their durability and their nice sound quality that I wanted to purchase one of Brainwavz's more premium earphones, which brings us to the Brainwavz S5.Once I received the Brainwavz S5 I wasted no time in burning them in for 40 hours straight with white and pink noise. The packaging was typical of a 100 dollar product, nothing special. But the accessories were a nice touch. Included in the packaging was a nice carrying case with a generous amount of ear tips and the comply tips were a much appreciated bonus! I have been using the default tips since they fit me quite well and I slapped on the comply ear tips on to my Soul SL99 earphones. The packaging and accessories get a 9.5/10.Now on to build quality. The build quality is excellent! These are probably some of the most durable earphones you will find in the 100 dollar price range. The flat cable is tangle free (which is a God send for me) and the housing is all metal (another God send)! The v shaped connector is a little bulky and it does weigh down the earphones just a bit, I don't care for the size of the connector at all. Build quality gets an 8/10 for me - it would have been a 9.5/10 if it weren't for the weighty connector. Now for the comfort and isolation. Comfort is pretty good, I have no complaints with the comfort of the S5, the noise isolation is a bit of a different story. Noise isolation is okay but not as good as the Brainwavz Delta. You will not be in your own little world with the S5, but the isolation is passable if you're on a train or a bus. Just don't expect any miracles. Comfort gets a 10/10 and isolation gets a 6.5/10.Now for the part you all have been waiting for; the sound quality! I have to say, I really enjoy the sound quality of my S5, I really do - they are much better than the 15 dollar Skullcandy earbuds I used to buy and they are better than my beloved Brainwavz Delta. Continue to read down below if you would like a more in depth description of the sound quality:Treble: The treble is detailed with the S5. It is a little sibilant so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to sibilance. The treble is a bit more emphasized than I'm accustomed to but the detail retrieval makes up for the somewhat impolite treble. 7.5/10.Midrange: The midrange is recessed with the S5. The v-shaped sound signature does not favor the midrange very much. Vocals came in nice and clear with above average detail but instruments sounded a tad distant. Male and female voices sounded nice and natural but a little distant. I would describe the midrange as smooth and natural. Recessed but enjoyable. 8/10.Bass: The bass on the S5 is emphasized for sure. More so the mid-bass. The bass does occasionally creep in to the midrange and can sound a little boomy at times depending on the genre of music you listen to. The sub-bass takes a backseat due to the mid-bass hump but there is enough sub-bass to keep the Hip hop heads happy. More sub-bass would have made this a 10 for me... 7.5/10.While the sound did not completely knock my socks off, I still consider the S5 to be genre friendly and very good sounding for the price. Though most of my full sized headphones including the Brainwavz HM5 do sound better to my ears.Overall I really like the Brainwavz S5, the build quality and the accessories alone justify the 100 dollar price, the sound quality seals the deal. I recommend it.

Not very durable but excellent customer support.
Made it through 5 months of daily use during my commutes to and from work before it crapped out. I'm not an audiophile but the sound quality seemed pretty good to me. It's a shame that these aren't very durable though as the area where the jack end had issues and I lost sound one ear.The plus side is that they had great customer service. I contacted PacificTechSolutions and they were very quick to respond. They told me to cut the cord and take a picture and send it to them and they would send me a new pair. I think the process took about 5 days from when I first contacted them to when I received the new pair. Hopefully this new pair lasts longer!Edit October 20, 2016I've lowered my rating because my replacement pair is going through the exact same issue again as the original ones. Very disappointed in the build quality and that neither have lasted more than 5 months. Anyways, I've contacted them and am going through the warranty claim process again.

Good quality headphone but nothing outstanding
Good sound quality but I couldn't notice anything in particular to put it above a few other high quality in-ear headphones. I also bought a couple of unexpensive ones with similar quality but lower prices.

love love them ! sound amazing 😂
I am not an audiophiles in any way, completely new to the audio game. Just wanted a nice pair of buds of Santa for my growing music collection. I did pleanty of research and read up on many review's of buds that where of a reasonable price and that would cater towards my broad spectrum of genera's from vocals, acoustics, jazz, classical, pop, country, electric ect and I felt that a lot of companys are catering towards bass heavy buds, and I didn't want bass to drown out any of the magic so I found these beauty's (there's still bass).Extremely happy with how the handle and fell,so clear its as if your there listening to the artist live. so comfortable too. They come with a wide array of buds to get a perfect fit. I love the comply tips,so comfy. The case is great too !So much with this and for a great price in comparison to other buds ! Get them !!!
