Quality product, good height, fit issues w Pioneer rack
*Seller was great. Fast shipping and responsive to questions. This is a product and manufacturer review.Just purchased and installed the Reconn towers on my Ram 1500 5th gen crew cab standard bed. Used the rail fit kit and the 54x60 Pioneer rack. There are fit issues to the Pioneer rack and t-bolt hardware does not work with the Pioneer Rack.First, the crossbar of the Pioneer rack sits up on the raised ridges of the landing area of the Reconn tower. Seems to me there should be a ‘shoe’ or fit spacer here. It was very tricky to get the crossbar to balance just perfectly and it looks like a good bump could knock the crossbar loose very easily.Second, there is no center slot to fit the t-bolt into the Pioneer rack like the directions show. So the t-bolt only works like a jam nut, which it is not designed nor strong enough for as it only jams at the corner edges. They are bending at only 3lbs of torque, and I was not going to continue to the 15lb of recommended torque. So, at the very least this application will need the proper channel/track jam nut and hex bolt hardware to replace the t-bolt hardware. Then, a fitment spacer or shoe for the Pioneer crossbar to seat correctly is likely needed.Once I know it’s properly secured and safe I’m confident I will love this set up. Exactly what I’ve been looking for.Update: I did modify an extra fit spacer I had which is for the RLT towers and Pioneer rack. I filed down the raised rectangle structure on the bottom side to be flush and then the spacer it slid onto the Reconn tower just perfectly. Still waiting to see if Rhino Rack will send me channel/track nut and bolt hardware.Update2: Ok, so Rhino Rack says my Pioneer rack is the previous generation (it’s only 1-1/2 years old) and they don’t have an engineered solution for it. But there is nothing in the current instructions or descriptions that delineates new or old Pioneer racks, just that Reconn towers work with the Pioneer rack. Anyway, I showed them the spacer mod to make it worked and asked them to send me the proper channel nuts and bolts. They want to charge me $72 for set of 8 hardware pieces. I found SS-316 marine grade hardware elsewhere for under 1/2 that price. Disappointed in Rhino Rack this time around. They are usually pretty good and responsive for solutions, especially when the issue is squarely on their shoulders.
