Loose hair sticking out in all directions :(
Very disappointed in this brush. I washed it and used it once, and when it dried it has hairs sticking out in all directions. I've cleaned and conditioned it and still it dried with hairs sticking out on all sides. I'm keeping my Princeton Velvetouch 1" wash and sending this lousy brush back. Maybe I just got a bad one but wow - $25 for this brush - no way! Princeton brush is $10 cheaper and 100 x better. What was I thinking ... all my brushes are Princetons, I should have just stayed with the good stuff.

Save Your Money! Packaging Wrecks The Quality of the Brush!
35.00 for a brush and it is sent in a flimsy bag via ups that allows the brush hairs to become warped and some of the hairs to be broken. No protection for the brush whatsoever like with the other Silver brushes. The packaging allowed the quality of the brush to be ruined. Save your money.

Disappointed with its release of paint to paper
Try as I might, I could not get this big brush to make even one clean full swipe across a 12" sheet of watercolor paper (140 lb NOT) when laying a wash. Even loaded as much as I could load it, no matter how wet, and at any speed, even a crawl, and any angle, it was making drybrush marks by the time I was 2/3 of the way across. I didn't buy it solely to drybrush with. I own, like, and use six other Silver Brush Black Velvets, so I was surprised and disappointed that I found myself sending this one back.

Brush is superb; packaging was not
Silver Black Velvet brushes are one of my favorite - the blend of squirrel and synthetic hair holds a lot of water/paint and also has good responsive "snap." This 1/4" flat is a good little brush. However, the packaging was awful - the brush arrived looking just like it does in the photo, with hairs askew and no protective cover at the head nor fixative on the hairs to hold them in place or to an edge. Fortunately the brush itself is quality enough that I mended the brush immediately on arrival (a bit of hair gel and used my fingers to smooth it all down and put the hairs to a proper "edge" then let it dry), and waited a couple of days before first use. After rinsing the hair gel out, the bristles maintained their edge, and the brush performs well.

Smooth, Consitent Results
I have been really excited to get this little watercolor brush, so when it arrived, I tried it out right away. It is soft, but still has pretty good spring. It is able to hold water well and it makes very smooth, consistent marks on the paper. I tried painting a one stroke leaf with it, which worked out beautifully. I really enjoyed painting with it.

I love these brushes
I'm really picky about my brushes - I literally bought and tested about 30 different brushes before I came across a glowing review for these on an art site and decided to give them a try. I love these brushes. They are just about perfect and I've been accumulating the entire set of them as I can afford to. ( I'm a bit confused about the handle on this one which is different than the wooden handles on most of the others, but it doesn't affect my usage of the brush... its more curiosity.)

My top favorite watercolor brush company
Stunning brush in looks and performance. Can’t go wrong with Black Velvet brushes. If you take care of them they will last a very very long time.
