Fantastic - fitted to Audi Mk1 TT Roadster
Really love this head unit - have just fitted it to my '02 Mk1 Audi TT roadster with full BOSE system (with 6 CD auto changer). Bought the autoleads PC9-410 but still had to do a considerable amount of wiring changes etc to get it fully working - well worth it though. DAB+ / FM / ipod / iphone / apple carplay etc is amazing and has given my old car a huge tech boost. Now I can listen to audio books etc on longer journeys. Works great with my BOSE speaker amplified system too. This is a post I wrote on the ttforums:Took me a few days to get it all fitted. First time I’ve taken the trims and facias off so a bit of a learning curve. The pioneer is a great bit of kit, especially apple CarPlay. I didn’t get the separate nav unit but the radio has several options - Apple maps via CarPlay, waze via the pioneer app mode and several other app based mapping options that you can download. Apple maps is the best integrated. Would be nice if tomtom made the go app CarPlay capable - maybe some day!Running the wires to the DAB windscreen aerial was the most difficult as the A pillar trim was a nightmare to remove resulting in a couple of broken clip housings (as others have reported in other threads). Just about went back together ok though, although not as tight as originally fixed.I also took feeds for the illumination wire on the HU - from the cigarette lighter lamp - works a treat and auto dims the screen when the lights are turned on. Also had to take a switched live from the bus bar but this isn’t ideal as it interrupts power to the HU when the car is started (I guess this is by design to prevent surges to accessories?). So I’ll get a relay and wire that into the key sense line instead on the fuse board which will be nicer anyway as the HU will stay on until the key is removed.HU sounds great - FM and DAB work really well so far. Very strong signals. Loads of options for playing music from USB, iPod/iPhone and a variety of apps. Nice bonus was the DAB pause and shuttle - just like using sky+ :) not tried DVD or CD’s yet. I had to wire up the handbrake sense line to get any advanced features to work - like firmware update etc. I just wired to permanent ground.BBC iPlayer app is another great CarPlay app - listen live to BBC radio or download recorded shows. Very nice. I also now have audible audiobooks natively supported via the audible CarPlay capable app.Fitting the HU, connectors and the external tuner box into the tight space was interesting. I ended up removing the climate control unit so I could pull and push everything behind that. It all just about fitted. I didn’t use any GLI’s - no interference so far and clean audio. The HU and cage has to sit slightly forward so that the screen can open up fully and vertically. The radio flap will not close in any arrangement unfortunately as the screen and particularly the volume knob protrude quite far out. There’s no way to rig it to make the flap close and give enough space for the screen to open vertically. However, I’m not bothered by this as I never closed the flap anyway. As the HU is slightly forward, there is a small step up from the autoleads blanking plates but it doesn’t look too bad. I’m happy to live with that minor niggle due to the huge step up in functionality from the old rubbish chorus tape unit! The screen opens up nice and vertically and when adjusted properly, doesn’t foul the radio flap or the heated seat controls, even when out. You can lower the screen to access these controls if needed. Background colours/image on the screen and colour of the buttons below the screen are all customisable and the red matches the rest of the TT’s illuminated buttons, so fits right in.

Fantastic unit for single din cars
We have a Land Rover Defender and it only has a single DIN space. We wanted a reversing camera, DAB, and Car Play. This unit has a flip out screen which allows all of that. It is connected to my Phoenix Gold subwoofer under the cubby box, and Focal 120 speakers all round. Sound is phenomenal. System is plug and play easy to fit (it you aren’t having to hardwire a sub - the sound out to which is simple line outs).Screen is clear; with ability to adjust the angle; and it does all it needs to.Not the cheapest but worth the money.
