Passing on some Tips to help with buying decisions
My Volvo XC70 was hit by a Drain Cleaning Truck and when the Police arrived they told me that the Camera just down the road which would have captured the accident was not working. So to cut a long story short it was my word against the Truck drivers and a Judge said it was shared responsibility 50 50.That was my reason for researching Dash Cams. The Nexbase 402G was a Which Best Buy so I thought the newer technology of the 512G would be ever better.I was not disappointed, the picture quality both day and night is brilliant. Very easy to get up and running just power it up and it gets the date and time automatically from the Satellite and you are away automatically recording. The picture is great with no set up , but I got this because it was more advanced with the Worlds first dashcam with an anti glare polarising filter. The filter dramatically improves the picture quality by capturing light from outside the car not reflections from within.Very easy to set up the instructions are very clear. Put a sheet of while paper on the dash below the rear view mirror this will cause reflections and a faint ghostly image of the paper will be seen on the screen of the dash cam. Turn the ring of the polarising filter slowly and bingo the reflected image slowly fades as the reflections are cancelled out. I want to say that it is like magic but that would disappoint my old A Level Physics Teacher.Seriously this is a very good piece of kit with no set up required , all automatic but if you want you can configure your own settings eg add your car number plate details to the image etc.It is a quality piece of kit which I can fully recommend for people who want something simple and straight forward working straight out of the box but advanced and configurable if you want to change the default settingsIn Car Dash Cam Camera DVR Dashboard Digital Driving Video Recorder 512G Anti-glare Polarising Full 1080P HD

I HAVE THE 512G AND THE 412GW BOTH ARE IMPRESSIVE 100% PRODUCTS
The Nextbase 412GW dash cam's feature set is available on their web page and here on Amazon so I'm not going to go into all that.I'd rather talk about the practicalities. What I will say is it is easy to use and gives spectacular results, the quality of the footage is excellent. I have both this cam fitted in my car and also a Nextbase 512G in my car, both I have hard wired into the fuse box with a piggyback fuse.Looking at and comparing the footage between them I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between the footage if at all. The 512G has a polarising filter whereas this model the 412GW does not but it makes little difference to any screen reflection. This 412GW has a magnetic quick release catch whereas the 512G has to be slid onto a catch and clicked into place. Don't get me wrong while this 412GW is easier to remove, it is no real hardship releasing the 512G but it is a little more fiddly. One point to note is the 140 degree wide angle lens. You may, on some cars, struggle to get a pillar to pillar view out of your windscreen if you mount the camera too low. The further you can get the camera from the front of the car the better. While on my van I could mount the camera centrally, on my car I couldn't because of all the electronics and sensors located in the centre of the screen behind the mirror. Still I was able to mount it just to the side and it covers the entire windscreen. There are a few software and feature set differences between the two cameras but in practical terms they do the same thing and produce the best results. Once fitted you will suddenly realise that there is so much bad driving going on around you, especially red light jumpers, those that cut other cars up and general bad driving, it won't take you long to to put to gather an hour long compilation of 'idiots on the road'.It also makes you consider your driving and you should be aware that if you have the microphone on it records EVERYTHING. I was ashamed of the language I sometimes used and my singing was atrocious. All in all an excellent product but I would recommend that you hard wire it to the fuse box with a piggyback fuse, that way if you choose the right fuse every time you switch on the ignition the device come on. If you are considering which product to buy either this one or the more expensive 512G there is pretty much nothing between them in quality of footage. The main selling point of this has to be the quick release and easy attachment of the device. You’d be fine with either and that as they say is down to your own preferences.A 100% Product.

VERY GOOD CAMERA.... BUT COULD OFFER A LITTLE MORE FOR THE PRICE!
I did a lot of research about dash-cams before I decided on this one and overall, for my needs, I think I made the right choice. The unit is, however, expensive when compared to the alternatives and I wouldn't describe it as perfect for the price. For example, Next Base don't include a memory card which at circa £180, is disappointing. There is a good length of cable which enables you to make a neat, semi-permanent installation around the screen and down the A pillar. I would have liked the cable to have a USB and 12v plug option too, but as it stands , the 12v plug is the only power source you can use. The camera itself is reasonably compact with a decent screen and easy to operate controls, relative to its size. My cars screen has a shaded area which the suction cup won't stick to, so I've had to mount it lower than I would have liked. A self adhesive mount would have been a good option to have. The footage is good and clear and the camera works well, switching itself on and off with the ignition so you don't have to worry about forgetting. I would have given it five stars apart from the minor points above but I would still recommend this camera if you're looking for one and can justify the price.
