Animal Jam Official Insider's Guide, Second Edition (National Geographic Kids)

My daughter is a devoted player of the Animal Jam game online, and I've seen the cleaver ways the game incorporates educational material and drives curiosity about science. I had no hesitation in picking up this book for her, and we have both enjoyed it tremendously. This is the perfect marriage of the visually arresting virtual world of Animal Jam and the incredible animal photography and educational resources of National Geographic. The book juxtaposes the fictional environments and animals of Jamaa with their real-world counterparts, weaving in interesting facts and valuable background info to help kids understand the ecological roles these animals play.Primarily a guide to the online game, the book provides a lot of information that may be new to even longtime Animal Jam players. Each region of the game has its own chapter, and every species of animal that appears in the game has at least a page or two. I was impressed by the sort of educational divergences from this primary theme that the author decided to take. For instance, the chapter about Jamaa Township (a central location in the game world) includes interesting tangents on the history of city dwelling and the construction of modern "green" cities. My daughter particularly loved reading the story behind some of the game's main characters, and even now she is scurrying back and forth between her room where she's reading the book, and the computer room where she's checking out some hidden game feature she just discovered. I predict I'll be seeing this behavior a lot in the coming weeks.The rich photography and vibrant, kid-friendly graphic design you would expect from National Geographic are well represented here. Animal Jam has a very unique art style that I believe has contributed to the game's popularity, and the book's designers have done a great job bringing it to life. The book is organized into bite-sized chunks of text and artwork, in a magazine-like format that will be familiar to readers of NatGeo's other kids' books, such as their almanac. Based on vocabulary and complexity, I would guess the ideal solo reader is between 7-10 years old; although kids as young as 3-4 will certainly enjoy the imagery as it's read to them.Whether your child is a die-hard Animal Jam player or just loves animals, this is a great summer book that packs a lot of fun into its 240 pages.

THIS. IS. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Animal Jam and I play it every day. I loved reading through all this and learning facts about Jamaa, the Animal Jam world, and about the real world and its animals!! The book also contains a code for animal jam-I'm not going to tell what it is, as I don't want to spoil it ;) Plus, there were a LOT of pictures of real animals and things in the Animal Jam game! Also, the book contains behind the scenes at Animal Jam Headquarters (AJHQ) It contains the making of Animal Jam worlds to explore and it's animals to play as in the game! I loved this book and would recommend it a lot!

My niece loves Animal Jam on her PC. It was really cute to give with her animal jam gift card as a gift. She read it cover to cover and made sure to tell me she is an expert among friends.

This is a book I bought for my daughter, who is 10, who loves all things animal jam, so she is the one who picked the star rating and these are her comments on it:"I liked that it had the animal jam lore, and it also showed the world map for animal jam and how to use it. It showed some of the animals, but it doesn't show all of the animals because this didn't really come out recently. So it shows a lot of the animals, but it doesn't show all of them (it was made in 2014). So most of it's here (from the game) but not all. And another thing is, like um, it has real life facts in it. And I thought it would kind of be a book about all animal jam stuff, so I was kind of startled when I saw that at first. There weren't any tip for the adventures, it just had descriptions of them, so it didn't help me with the stuff I needed it to. "I asked her if she liked the way the book was laid out, and she said, "yah."

WOW - this book is FANTASTIC! I bought it as a stocking stuffer for my 9 yr old daughter. She LOVES Animal Jam and was thrilled when she opened this. She has been reading it since Christmas - there are so many fascinating facts about the real live versions of the animals on the game, as well as information about the game itself. Well worth the money!

Both of my daughters love to play Animal Jam. This was a last minute Christmas gift for my 11 year old and it arrived on Christmas Eve (thanks to two day amazing shipping). The book is filled with ideas on the game but it also gives the kids information about their animal that they are using while playing the game and some nice little notes to remember about different parts of the world.

I'm only giving it a lower review because the corner was bent when I received it. as this is to be a gift and I ordered a new book I wanted it to look in new condition with the bent corner it looks used. My granddaughter will probably like it just the same.
