Velleman MK152 Spinning LED Wheel Mini Kit, Multi-Colour

My grandson loved this gadget. Admittedly, it took a bit of fiddling with a soldering iron to get it work, but work it did. With only a little help from me, it took my boy around an hour to get it to work. Handling the hot soldering iron was a first for him (and a traumatic time for me - his mum would not have been happy if her little soldier had been burned), but he enjoyed the achievement, and delighted in the result.

Very good for getting children interested. These are not expensive so if they make a mistake it is just part of the learning experience.

Quick to do but not all pieces line up quiet right , ok for a beginner xx

I love these mini kits, they really test ones soldering skills, and when I put it all together it worked. Great.

I previously bought the Velleman "bug" kit and thought the components were a bit cheap but at least it worked.This "simpler" kit was bought along with the Sound to Light Unit to introduce electronics to my 10 year old, and both were an utter waste of money.I have plenty of experience soldering PCBs so when the connectors flake off the PCB and the legs of the IC are about as robust as a KitKat wrapper then I know its lacking quality.I've seen others work (and the bug worked) so I can only assume the quality varies from poor at best to terrible.I won't be buying one of these kits again.

Didn't work. Reflowed solder and swapped some parts to try and bring it to life. No Joy. No tech support shown.

The Velleman MK152 Spinning LED Wheel is a cute little (it is very small, about 2-1/2 inches in diameter) "do-nothing" gadget that was fun to build and fun to play with (for a little while, at least). It comes with all the parts (except a 9-volt battery) and the build instructions are complete albeit a bit cryptic. It would help to have some basic knowledge of electric components (i.e., resistors, capacitors, etc.) to avoid making mistakes during assembly particularly if the assemblier is quite young (less than 10 or 12). It took me, a 74 year old grandpa, about 90 minutes to complete the job. All in all, with some previous experience and considerable patience during the soldering of the components to the circuit board, it was a fun project and well worth the minimal cost of the kit.

Enjoyed building this! It was straight-forward to assemble and works great. It is addictive to use again and again, and provides a nice, random ending pattern. The instructions on the packaging were fully accurate and will make assembly a breeze for novices and experts alike.Three notes:1) Note that the copper pads are VERY thin. When clipping the leads, make sure to NOT pull on them at all; otherwise you will tear up the pads and render the entire board unusuable.2) The green LEDs are slightly dimmer than the rest of them. This is normal if it ends up being this way on yours.3) NO 9V Battery is included.
