Personal story of an US AAF Combat Pilot in the Pacific Theatre at mid to end ww2
I liked the personal accont of the Pilot from start of his journey to the happy ending in Chicago. I am intersted that conflict between two different cultures. It complements accounts like Jungle Road to Tokyo by Gen Eclinberger. I did not like the profusion of all the references, as it suggested a scholerly book-it is not.Its a mistake to mix the two. His views on Gen MacArthur were interesting.."The Naked and the Dead" book view. If i visit Chicago I would like to meet him.

An excellent book
A very interesting, highly informative book. It follows Jim Curran's admittance into the military, his training and finally becoming a member of a squadron flying the fantastic Republic P47 Thunderbolt. His time in the Pacific theatre was a time of tremendous physical hardship. The living conditions, and poor food, on the sometimes makeshift air strips used to take such a toll on the crews that every time they'd lost 30 to 40 pounds of weight they were shipped off to Sydney for a weeks R&R to rest and regain their health. All this and they still had to battle against the Japanese hoards. An excellent book.

Rough and tough frontline combat
Not one of the best flying wartime book but certainly showed how difficult war in the Pacific really was on the planes and crews. Flying from rough air bases and living in tents some of the time.

Amazing story of Pilot and Plane
Amazing story of Pilot and Plane. I would love to see a Thunderbolt flying sadly not likely in this country. The book is also a great personal account of one mans wartime story. Well worth a read.

Three Stars
Bit of a list rather than an interesting commentary on the Pacific War
