STAEDTLER 552 01 PR1 Mars Comfort compass set with Mars micro mechanical pencil and HB leads

Having tried a Rotring compass that failed to create a large circle as it kept 'slipping'. I can't think of another way of saying it but it just wouldn't hold it's proper position. So much so that I was drawing lovely eggs.The Staedler compass on the other hand does keep steady and holds true to draw effortless, perfect circles. Nice touches are the little levers on the legs to facilitate easy and fast opening/closing of the legs. But once released there is no further movement. The cog aids in finer adjustment. Another reason I bought this particular compass is for the enclosed pen holder attachment which is proving it's worth. Very handy. There is a little bit of heft to this which aids in it's use and it seems to, mostly, be comprised of metal. And above all, well constructed.

This is a great compass that is a master at drawing accurate circles. The lock function is perfect and makes extending and reducing the diameter size easy. You don't need to take the needle away from the centre hole either. This also comes with a lovely mechanical pencil with lead replacements. The compass has one needle and two lead replacements. Ideal for pupils, students and artists. Please Steadler could you bring out a full draughtsman kit. I had to buy two separate compass sets to get the tools I needed.

Quality items

I like the combination of rapid and fine adjustment, makes the compass an absolute dream to set. It’s accurate and well balanced in use, the design is attractive. I’m very wary of the two part construction, I worry about the durability of this product. It feels a bit light and fragile in the hand. I do wish i’d bought the all metal professional version of this compass, because I like everything else about it, it is a very well designed item.

I dreamed for such a set when I was at the university!I do really not need it now, because I work predominantly on computer, but bought it just for the pleasure of looking at it! Great design and a really good professional tool!

The last time I had a compass set I was at school! Bought this to use with my drawings that require curves/ circles. Also comes with a push button pencil which is excellent. Well worth buying. Recommended

Feels solid and good in the hand - very accurate non-slip - highly recommended

There's a good weight to this compass, and the feel of it in use is extremely comfortable. I use it in combination with a small magnifying glass to make sure I'm getting the tip in the right place, and if you want the best possible results, be sure to adjust the legs to parallel.It comes with a second dividing tip and two spare leads. The bonus pencil is a nice touch.
