My one was strong enough to withstand multiple brush bar jams. If you're unlucky, just return it
I repair Gtech's and the issue is almost always that the white plastic cog has been stripped. When the brush bar gets jammed, from the inevitable shoe-lace or rug corner that gets caught up in the whirring brush, the onboard electronics are meant to detect this and switch the motor off. However, for a split second the the motor is still trying to turn the jammed up brush bar, if the plastic cog can't withstand this turning force the teeth strip and you get a horrible screeching noise and a ruined vacuum. If you're outside your warranty period you either have to pay for a repair, buy a new Airram (!?) or do it yourself...If you have a T10 Torx screwdriver (the star shaped ones) this isn't too difficult (see Youtube for how to do it).The problem is getting a replacement cog unit that is strong enough to withstand a future brush bar jam up. You can't get them from Gtech, most third party ones out there are not strong enough and will strip on the first jam.I've bought just one of these so far to test it. I've installed it and have tested it 4 times by sucking up the end of a towel (tearing the towel up BTW) and it's still working fine...Who knows when they'll have a bad batch, but for now I'd recommend this one (and will use them for repairs myself when my usual supplier runs out; I normally just buy the white cog and fit them on the spindle - but it's much more awkward to do!)NOTE: A Gtech Airram IS designed to withstand the brush bar getting jammed; check your Gtech manual and you'll see shows this. So if your replacement cog strips, just send it back as an Amazon faulty return and keep going until you get one that is strong to handle getting jammed up)....and remember to use some grease or it won't count as a faulty return! (anything that's safe with plastic...)

Save your AirRam from the scrap heap
The plastic cog meshing with a steel drive shaft is a very poor design on the part of Gtech, I hope they took the engineer who came up with this outside and showed him the error of his ways. Even worse is the fact that Gtech don't sell this as a replacement part so render the whole £200 cleaner useless. My one stripped after picking up long hair which wraps around the roller brushes and so over time destroys the plastic teeth with the strain on the rollers. It's a faff to replace the part,(excellent YouTube video to help), but this replacement part works excellently and as it's the complete shaft a lot faster than just replacing the cog. A bit more expensive, but worth it.Hair etc has got into the brush bearings and they look the worse for it so I expect I will be looking for replacements soon. Again not from Gtech.

Quality part, saves a fortune in repair costs and easy to do, great company to buy from.
These cog shafts are a nightmare as seemingly every time the gtech catches on a carpet edge or a thread it strips it. Got to be a design fault as we've had several of these since we got our gtech albeit a few years ago. However without having this spare you would face a more expensive gtech repair bill or having to get a new gtech and although changing it yourself effectively invalidates a guarantee, ours is out of warranty period anyway. This company are who we've virtually always dealt with as they post out quickly after payment and have never had a bad experience with. We did buy from a slightly cheaper source before but it seemed the part wasn't of such good quality. I would always recommend getting from here, and there is a really easy guide online of how to change the part yourself, which isn't hard to do at all, providing you have the right tools.

Mixed Quality.
Had two these now, the first lasted 12 months and would have lasted longer but It got it stripped when i caught the fringe on the edge of the carpet.(not the parts fault - the Gtech is supposed to stop when it gets jammed)The second arrived today. - it didn't look as good quality as the first one and lo and behold it lasted 5 minutes before chewing itself up so quality appears to be variable.

This part was a challenge to fit into the AirRam ...
This part was a challenge to fit into the AirRam cleaner, but when fitted worked well for a short period of time. It did not last long and quickly needed replacing. I do not think that I will repeat the exercise.
