Q: Can you use it to seal and protected painted wood, e.g. painted salad bowl?

i am no expert, but i am guessing the answer to your question is no. i bought this product because i had watched many videos on you tube about making cutting boards, as i wanted to start making them myself, and in most of them the final thing that is done is putting this oil over all the surfaces and leaving approx 30min and then wipe off any left, and leave to dry and then buff surfaces to get a good finish. this is a special oil that lubricates the wood and also brings out the grain and colour of the wood as this oil soaks into the wood and lubricates the wood and stops it cracking, and is safe for use with food, that is why i do not think this is the right product for you i find you tube very helpful if i want to find out how to do something, so i would suggest you go onto you tube and type in your quetion, and i think you will probable be amazed at how many vid there are on the subject. hope this info is helpful.

Q: Can you use as pre-stain conditioner?

I am not sure. As it is food safe is you stain food safe?

Hi, if the pine is to be used in contact with food the you can use Butcher Block Conditioner. If it not food related you can use Feed-n-Wax on it's own or Citrus Shield neutral or with a colour tint eg golden Oak again on i's own, no need to pre condition or follow up. Hope this helps Anna
