Good but not perfect, depends what you need covered
We ordered the XL for our 88lb doberman. We sized up a little to get the widest possible donut as I had concerns that he could possibly reach his face. Our dog had surgery to remove some growths on various parts of his body. I would say it does an excellent job of protecting his wounds on his belly, butt, neck, and upper legs. There is no way he can reach those areas or his entire back. It does not protect our dogs face or toes up to about the middle of his legs.He had a growth removed on his eyelid and this is where we ran into problems. He is able to reach his face and eyes with his back legs to itch. He can also lick his legs from his toes up to about halfway so if you have anything you’re trying to protect in those two areas then I would consider a full cone that covers up to your dogs nose. There’s really nothing I’ve found yet that can replace it.The second problem in our case is he also rubs his head on furniture and people to itch the surgery site on his eyelid. It is not necessarily the products fault in this case, we just didn’t see that one coming. I am a bit disappointed that he can reach his head with his legs so I knocked off a star for that. Some other cons, he cannot use the dog door and we had to close it as he almost destroyed the watermelon trying to squeeze out.I mentioned we sized up, I would do that again because we needed the extra width on the donut but be aware the velcro rough/smooth alignment will be off. It’s okay in our case but could definitely benefit from restitching. For pros, it’s fairly easy for him to eat and drink still, the donut is not in the way at all. He maintains much better peripheral vision and he is much happier in this rather than the cone. He also learned to use it like a pillow. It is a soft although very thin material.Visually speaking, he has never looked cuter. We love the image. It’s comical and endearing to look at this big puffy watermelon with our dogs head in the middle and it definitely scores him even more pets and kisses.A good middle ground we found is to keep the watermelon on when we are around so we can watch him if he moves to itch. He listens fairly well to us so it works in our case. But if we’re too busy or not home we switch to the tried and true comfy cone which covers him all the way up to his nose. He hates it and mopes around but it gives everyone more independence. He can kind of squish thru the dog door and we’re not worrying about the stitches.Anyway, it’s all temporary for a couple weeks….

Super cute, mostly effective
I loved how cute this was and the quality overall is pretty sturdy. My dog occasionally would try to bite the edge of it and wasn't able to do any lasting damage. Blowing it up was a little challenging and at first I thought it was broken as it took several tries to get the right angle for the air to start filling it up. Once it was on it was fairly effective but even after carefully measuring to get the right size, my dog was able to still reach his stitches if the donut sat a certain way on him. He couldn't reach them well, but close enough that I felt I had to keep an eye on him to make sure he couldn't lick. He did sleep much better at night with this than he did the cone as it acts as a sort of pillow. Overall, happy with the product, just wish the donut had a slightly larger circumference to prevent reaching anything.

Decent
I wouldn’t allow your pet to wear this unsupervised. I bought this for my 70lb mixed breed pup after ACL repair surgery. She was still able to lick her wound but she does have a longer snout and a longer torso. The opening kept sliding to the front and one time she tried to stand up and slipped on the Velcro snap and then another time her foot got caught in the opening. Also she was laying on her back and her head started to slip through so I had her sit up so she wouldn’t choke herself with the collar. Luckily I work from home so I was watching her at all times. But just be careful and watch your pets. I felt bad that she slipped on the strap because obviously her knee was barely recovering. I will say also my dog is high energy and is a licker. Overall it was a good product, worked well, good quality. But docking a star off for safety and you need an air pump to blow this up.

Can still get to stitches
I have a 90 lb lab that just had TPLO (ACL) surgery. She HATES the plastic cones so I went ahead and got a inflatable one. It definitely makes her second guess trying to reach back to her leg, but she could still get to her leg to lick if the velcro part was at the bottom of her neck- which it did often. Overall though if I kept an eye on her and kept it in place, it did keep her from the stitches! Still much better than the classic plastic cone.

My dogs likes it a lot more!
My dog got surgery and using a body suit pretty much paralyzed her with fear and the cone the vet sent her home with was too large and prevented her from eating and drinking water. She would also accidentally knock into things and had difficulties laying down in it. I got her this and her personality went back to normal! She was clearly happy with it and was able to sleep in her normal positions like usual. she was able to eat and drink fine. She doesn't chew on things, so I can't say anything in regards to it, but I can definitely say it's worth the price. Also, you get a little watermelon walking around. :)

No air pump included for inflating
Inflatable ring is covered by fairly sturdy material that resisted tearing when caught in a protruding nail. It is soft so I assume it is comfortable. My dog has an easier time maneuvering around with this collar than with the standard hard plastic cone. It is easy to put on and take off. The dog collar that threads through the cushion is of good quality and soft i.e. not rigid so more comfortable for 24/7 wear. The only problem is that product did not include an air pump (it resembles a large syringe). I tried inflating with lung power but it was slow going. Fortunately, I remembered that a whopoee cushion I bought years ago included an air pump. Once armed with the air pump, it was a cinch filling up the collar.I suggest the seller include a note mentioning that an air pump is not included.

Good dog cone alternative
My dog recently got fixed and used this as an alternative to the "cone of shame". My dog did well with it. I ended up just using his personal collar with it to help it fit better around his neck. He did keep it on, but it was a little lose fitting and would occasionally get his paw stuck in the velcro on top.
