Working great the first week

Working great the first week, then, starting making popping and static sounds. Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled to no avail. Returned for refund.

i like it, compact

i like it,compact,a lot of features,mac compatible,nice sound quality!Buuuuut you need to know if you use mac that you dont have the settings that came with the cd(programm)!They only used by windows

Intersting unit, but has no protection against RF, ...

Intersting unit, but has no protection against RF, EMI or Ground Buzz from the computer usb interface. Too noisy for my application and thus unusable.

This was bought to run a laptop using Sony Vegas 11 to record 5.1 Dolby into a home theater receiver. It works flawlessly! What an improvement this Diamond external card is. I am using an optical cable and running all sorts of devices from a Korg Kaossillator, a sampler and a hardware synth amongst other things and this device easily keeps up with everything I've thrown at it. The 5.1 rendering is awesome! It really is more than I expected. Installation was simple, the interface is thorough and easy to use. If you need 5.1 Dolby this is all you need. Perfect, thanks Diamond for a great product.

digital optical audio, is just pass-thru...

It definitely makes a significant difference to the sound quality for the audio from my notebook. However, the digital optical audio input does not work for my PS4. What the other companies who have the same dac/amplifier stated, was it is just a pass-thru. Also the power level out thru the rca to a pair of powered desktop speakers is not as good as for the headphone output. So, I only rate it as 3 stars and would not recommend this if you need it to connect both a usb source and a digial optical audio source. If you need just to improve sound quality for your audio from a notebook, via usb, it will suffice, given it's price.
