Hand made Wheel of the Year Bowl. Some years ago a friend, knowing how I like to recycle wood whenever possible, gave me an old Oak door, covered in many layers of paint, it looked pretty shabby, I set to work sanding it back to the bare wood, a long and dusty process but the end result was worth the effort. Rather than being solid Oak, it was made of many pieces of different shades laminated together, it looked fantastic. I used bit's of it for my own personal projects and tucked the left over bit's away and forgot about them until recently when I was cleaning out my workshop. I had in mind to make a Wheel of the Year from some Idigbo, a light weight wood with a lovely yellow hue, then I found the multi colored Oak and the idea of marrying the two woods popped into my head, so I set about doing just that and the W of the Y Bowl pictured is the finished product. Personally I am very pleased with the way it turned out, the yellow tones of the Idigbo compliment the red/brown/cream shades of the Oak to perfection. The overall shape is of course representative of a wheel, ideal for storing small items such as Pendulum/Crystals/Keys etc. The Idigbo lid features an insert with the names of the seasons around the outer edge & a central YinYang set within a spoked design and on the underside of the lid an insert with Pentacle design. All pyrographed into the wood. The bowl is made up of the multi colored Oak sections from the old recycled door, creating a colorful abstract design and the base is also made of Idigbo. It has been finished with pure beeswax, no chemicals added. The Measurements are: Diameter - 17cm (6-3/4") Height - 7cm (2-3/4") Internal depth - 2cm (3/4") Internal diameter - 12.5cm (5") (I prefer to use the ancient Celtic spelling of Beltaine rather than the more modern Beltane) This design is copyright ©, A Burning Ambition, 2017. Absolutely lovely
I love how the creator made the most of the qualities of the woods used, and I use it all the time for my most precious small stones. To be fair, I love the use of wood and craftsmanship of everything that I've bought from this firm; the descriptions and photos are always accurate.
