The book contains b & w photos of French uniforms from the official documents. The drawn & painted pictures are of the uniforms, there are no people inside. It is a a very well designed and documented book for uniformologists and military painters.

L'ARME'E FRANAISE 1943-1956 (Officers and Soldiers)is in French language edition that picked up the wonderful and colorful illustration tradition established by the streak line of the previous volumes. However, despite being no less important volume in the series on the world uniforms, (the series covered also the US Civil War and Napoleonic periods)the L'ARME'E FRANAISE could be very well to stand alone, and that due to the new art arrangements.Customary,Histoire and Collections publications of the series have own unique art, here at the volume 15,is rather the reproduction of the other artists' works or different books editions altogether, akin for example Handbook on Italian Military Forces by War Department. In addition, I just want to mention, and not to repeat the official description that the French forces after the stunning defeat of 1940, specially those of the English based origins, they became more and more use of initially British and then the American type of uniforms and equipment. The most fascinating factor that the US influence trend in uniforms somewhat still continued up to this day in the combat and fatigue variations of the French military.

Endlich ist die sehr gute und informative Serie zur französischen Uniformierung ergänzt worden!Neben den Heften zu franz. Uniformen 1914, 1914-1918 und 1940 ist jetzt der sinnvolle Fortsetzer erschienen, der die franz. Uniformen ud die Vielzahl an Abzeichen, Schiffchenfarben etc von 1943-1956 beschreibt. Viele Fotos, Farbzeichnungen und Abbildungen bringen da Licht ins Dunkel, wenn es um Paspelierungen, Rangwinkel etc geht.Sicher, keine Lektüre zum Lesen am Kamin, eher etwas für den Fachmann auf der Suche nach Informationen. Nischenwissen wäre evtl der Ausdruck dafür.Wunderbar, dass man in kleine Hefte doch so viel Information bringen kann. Der franz. Text ist allerdings teils schwer zu lesen, man kommt aber zurecht. Wie bei den anderen Heften auch wird es sicher bald eine englische Übersetzung geben.
