Olde Thompson 3948-00 Twin Grinder, Peppermill and Salt Mill.This combination salt grinder and pepper grinder works quite well. It can be adjusted to provide fine ground or coarse ground salt and pepper. I have not done any shopping for large salt grains or peppercorns to refill it, but I will have to do so in the near future. Myself, I cannot see any need for coarse ground salt, as the salt crystals need to be fine ground in order to dissolve on your food. Grinding large salt crystals into fine salt crystals seems like a marketing gimmick, as it does not improve the salt crystals, it only makes them smaller to dissolve more quickly on your food. Grinding your own pepper is understandable, if you see a need for fresh coarse or fine ground pepper, but the peppercorns are dried anyway, and I don't see how grinding them is going to make them any fresher. Coarse ground pieces of pepper will only get stuck in your teeth, adding a pepper taste to anything else you eat. What I do like about this twin grinder, is that it is more visible and easier to find on the table than traditional small salt and pepper shakers. I may end up refilling it with common fine ground salt and pepper. If the Olde Thompson company made a one piece combination salt/pepper shaker without any grinders, I would be just as happy to use it. This Twin Grinder is more of an attractive table decoration than anything else. This grinder is three inches wide, and seven and a quarter inches tall. Really liked this at first, then it became a struggle to turn the dial

I have been using this grinder for many years and love it. We don't use any others since it's replaced the various grinders and shakers we've had. So convenient, elegant and easy to use. Comes with lifetime guarantee! I do put it in a very small dish in the cupboard that catches excess ground salt dust that accumulates on bottom rim and drops on cupboard shelf. An alternative would be to simply wipe it off occasionally as it builds up slightly over time.

Cheap but much worse out there. I got a year and a half out of the last one. Get what you pay for. In between the first and second of these, I had another one that had salt on one end and pepper on the other. Broke during first use. This one is perfect when trying to teach that one passes the salt with the pepper. Not foodie gear. Just adequate until it breaks.

I like everything about this product, easy to hold, simple to use, looks great. Would give as a gift to family and friends for them to enjoy as well.

Love this two in one salt pepper mill. I've had others but this one feels great in your hands, holds a lot spices and can be adjusted for different grind settings! So easy to use and fast.

The pepper side of the grinder has broken at around one year after use. We have had two and this has happened with both. There is a rotating square shaft that is tethered/stabilized with a plastic piece that, with "normal" use, breaks and the peppercorns come through not ground or only partially so. I have written the company but have received no reply.
