Rotring500 Drafting Pencil - 0.5 mm

Solid build, light metal body with matte black finish, parts machined with tight tolerances and precision. Easy to carry and use while on the move or in the field. Doubles as a small hand tool on occasion. Not the most ergonomic or luxurious, though not meant to be.

Love the way it feels. Heavy duty metal rotring grip, with sturdy sturdy thick plastic body makes it a perfect weight. Not to heavy but by no means does it feel cheap. The 500 gets a bad rap for the plastic. But this small little pencil feels both sturdy and elegant. I only use pentel lead but the rotring lead that came in it is really really good, I was surprised and actually haven't switched out the lead for pentel as I normally do with new pencils. Came with 5 pieces total which was nice. The eraser works well . I'd read bad things but it works, just not as long as pentels pencils first eraser, but about the size as pentels refills.ive added pics and one had a graphgear 1000 in it to help describe the size of the rotring. Non retractable nib. But it's solidly made. Would survive some light punishment. Hope this helps!

Nice sturdy mechanical pencil except for the tip.I’ve used R@tring products for 20+ years they have always worked great for me. This unit came in damaged from shipping and is being replaced. I’m looking forward for a new one without a bent tip to replace my old one which wore out after 4 years of service.

This isn't the first Rotring product I've bought. As soon as you open the packaging, you get a feeling of quality. The pencil is perfectly weighted--enough so that you know you're holding a sturdy product, but not so much as to be cumbersome or weigh down your pocket.The movable lead indicator is a nice feature for those of us that use different shades for different purposes (hence my owning more than one Rotring product). The eraser is what you would typically expect from a nice drafting pencil. Personally, I prefer a dedicated eraser, but it would be fine in a pinch.The grip really is the selling point for me. Often grips are too soft, too rough, etc. This grip is perfect. Regardless of the time I spend using this pencil, the grip remains comfortable. Even if you have sweaty hands, the texture of the grip won't be compromised.

My son was so happy. I should say that it is a good buy given the price. You could get 800, but 500 is more than enough.

This pencil is under rated. My fave is the 600, but for the price, this beats out all of the pentel and Alvin options. This is my main pencil. Light. Resilient. Precision instrument.

This pencil is the best mechanical pencil I have used, I usually go for the cheap as dirt ones but decided to "splurge" for once and I am glad I did! I didn't know what I had been missing out on and this pencil has been an eyeopener for me! I recommend it if you like to draw, write or do anything with .5 lead, I know I am extremely satisfied!

I bought this to replace my Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph pencil I bought in college. the feel is identical to my old pencil but the price is less than replace cost. If it lasts as long if feels it should, will be a great deal too
