Safety First
I love this helmet. I ride an ebike that is very heavy. Its not always safe to go one handed and signal a turn. This allows me to be very predictable to cars. Its also attention grabbing, increasing the chance that a distracted driver might see me.

Excellent Smart Helmet for Street Bicycle Riders
The media could not be loaded. The Good- The helmet looks amazing- The battery last a decent amount of time- The LEDs are very bright, which is great to be seeing even during day time- The rear LED is fully customizable, from a variety of presets that include new ones with firmware updates to text that can be changed to display whatever the rider wants- Motion detection can be activated to automatically display the rider is slowing down- The right and left turning signals show both in the front and back of the helmet- The turning signals can also be activated with hand gestures using the Apple WatchThe Bad- The Apple Watch app doesn’t work as expectedWhat can be said about this helmet... Well, it is definitely an awesome smart helmet with very bright LED lights to help bicycle riders be seen at night and even during the day. With a remote controller that can be attached to the handle bar for easy use to select turning lights, with motion sensor which can detect when the rider is slowing down to show on the rear LED a warning light for others to see, with an Apple Watch that can be used with universal hand gestures to indicate when turning left or right, plus customizable text message that can be displayed on the rear LED, messages like WATCH FOR BICYCLE RIDERS, this helmet is without doubt an awesome piece of tech for those riding on the streets. While the Apple Watch works, it does have some issues. When rising the hand/arm to activate the turning signals, in order to either turn off the signal (hand on the handle bar) or changing the hand to the other turning signal position, unless the hand is shaken hard towards that other direction, the turning signal will stay on. This could become an issue depending on the riding conditions.Other than this, I believe this helmet is one that I see myself wearing every time I go ride on the streets. And while a moving light or graphic on the rear LED can also be the cause of distraction to drivers around you, they will definitely make anyone aware of you on the streets and hopefully help increase your safety.

Nice Lighting Features but Very Heavy; Lacks Sufficient Ventilation; Uses Proprietary Charging Cable
I got into cycling as a hobby a few years ago and now spend most weekend mornings on my bike along with some rides interspersed throughout the week. I started out with a rather plain Bell bike helmet before investing in a nicer helmet from Kask. The Lumos Street is a radical departure from my Kask helmet in both design and features.TLDR version:This is a heavy helmet with cool lighting options that make a rider more visible and likely improves safety. The helmet looks a bit weird and there's a stormtrooper vibe here, which might be a good thing depending on the rider. But my main gripes are a lack of ventilation; overall weight of the helmet; and size (testing the Medium-Large) - it's really not for people with large heads (order the XL!). The proprietary charging cable is an annoyance too.► Setup:From unboxing to riding takes just a few short steps or possibly more, depending on the size of your head. First, I recommend charging the helmet and turn signal with the included cable. You'll notice straight-away that the connector is USB-to-proprietary which is immediately annoying. Why Lumos didn't go with just a ubiquitous USB-C connection, I'm not sure.Next, I recommend mounting the turn signal which is super easy with the included bands and small mounting plate. You'll also want to do a test fit on the helmet and select from two different sized internal pads. The red pads are thicker and for people with smaller heads; green for people with larger heads.Lastly, look for the Lumos app in your favorite app store and download that. Getting everything paired was smooth and the app works well.► Impressions, Fitment, Weight & More:As I said, the medium-large size of this helmet is really designed for people with smaller heads. I have a large head and even with the smaller pads inserted, I'm at the absolute limit of this helmet. So, my wife has been the one using it. We live in a perfect community for this type of helmet where we can walk/bike to a small downtown area with shops and restaurants and a farmers market. My wife has been using this helmet on her short rides and loves the extra visibility and especially the built in accelerometer which engages flashing brake lights on the back of the helmet automatically. She uses the Lumos in addition to both rear and forward-facing bike lights. On my wife, the Lumos Street fits great and she can get a near perfect fit. My wife has complained that the helmet is noticeably heavy, weighing in at 588g (20.7oz)! For short rides it's fine; anything longer and especially when it's hot and the weight and lack of ventilation become an issue.Battery life is really good even when using the front and rear LEDs. Lumos claims 4-10hrs depending on usage and my wife goes several rides in between charging. The turn signal buttons are just about the right size and work instantly. I would be especially careful with where you mount them on your handlebars as you'll want them in an easy to reach spot.► Order this helmet if...:You're cycling in short bursts for a few miles, getting to your destination and relaxing. I would definitely not recommend using the Lumos Street on any type of long ride just based on weight alone.

Great Concept - Several Major Issues
First of all, I love this helmet for bike commuting. It's bright, and you can play with the functionality within an app interface such as brake sensitivity on the gyrometer, light pattern, etc. The helmet itself fits well, but is not all that well vented. The light helps me to be seen at night and day, and also helps me signal my intentions when I'm changing lanes, turning, etc. For whatever reason, the chin/ear straps of the helmet rub behind the back of my ear no matter how many ways I try to adjust the straps, liner cushions, etc. That means it's not comfortable to wear for long stretches of time. Battery charge functions were frustrating to say the least...there is no indicator when the helmet is fully charged. The turn switch turns green, but the helmet stays red, even when the battery is full so you never really get a full sense of when the helmet is ready to go unless you log in and sync with the app.I wish there was a universal charger like USB C or micro USB...if you lose or damage the braided charging cable you're out of luck unless you order a manufacturer specific one. Setup to pair the turn signal to the helmet was not super intuitive and I had to watch a bunch of videos to get all of the installation and specs dialed in to my satisfaction. Overall I think there's a lot of user experience improvements to make but the concept is awesome and I'm grateful for more light and safety while bike commuting.
