Okish
I am reviewing a magnetic fidget pen. This toy comes in a gift box, although the inside of mine is quite tatty with lots of black offcuts so if you were giving this as a gift you might need to clean it up a bit first. The pieces themselves are very shiny and I really like the multicoloured look of the magnetic cylinders. The writing refill that came preinstalled did not have a small plastic cover like the other two (as pictured online) and I found a red substance smeared over the end that I initially thought was leaked red ink. Trying to write with it the red began to peel away so I removed the rest of it, getting ink all over my hands but at least getting it working. Although the black ink flows nicely from all three refills, the nib is quite thin so it feels a little scratchy to write with.Whilst the ink reservoir of the refill holds the magnets together in a line when used as a pen, you have to remove this to install a stylus tip which makes the pen quite unstable. To stop it coming apart I had to hold it very gently, which made it tricky not to drop it due to the weight. I found the larger of the two stylus tips too big to be very accurate, and although the smaller one worked fine, it is quite delicate and looked squashed almost straight away. The set comes with a little card of âideasâ for things to build, but there arenât actually enough pieces to make them - eg the heart has 14 cylinders and the dog 18, whereas the set only contains 13. One picture also shows large flat circular âfeetâ on a model that donât exist in the set â the flat circle ends you do get are in fact the same diameter as the cylinders. You can of course choose what to make yourself, but building is a little tricky as the magnets are so strong that if you get one piece at all near to another piece they snap together even if you donât want them to and are hard to pull apart again. I did manage to get better at this, but the effort needed outweighed the âfunâ element for me.So in conclusion, this toy looks nice and shiny, but is a bit tricky to build with and whilst it is usable as a rather heavy and slightly scratchy pen, I really wouldnât recommend it as a stylus.

Attractive and useful fidget gift
This fidget pen came nicely presented in a black gift box, containing the pen (made up of 13 magnets), ball bearings of different sizes and 2 extra pen refills. Extra pen components included two nibs for using on a phone or tablet. The box also included a small contents and ideas card, but not all ideas were completable with just the components included in the box. I wish the included instructions gave more ideas that you could complete without purchasing a second pen.The installed pen was initially protected on its nib with a little red wax like substance, but once removed writes smoothly and clearly. It has become a go-to pen on my desk.To make different shapes out of the magnets and ball bearings, you do have to disassemble the pen - and so either you end up using this as a pen OR a magnet toy, but unlikely both in the long term. I spent some time making shapes, but soon converted it back to a pen for long term value. The pen still has fidget function as it is made of the 13 magnets that rotate as you hold it. Also, I like that, being magnetic, I store it by sticking it to my desk lamp.Final thoughts - an affordable fidget gift, with no upper age limit and potential for long term practical use.
