I would go with the platinum to match closer to satin nickel. You can also blend two different colors of the metallic paints to closer match your knobs. Everything I see indicates priming with a base color close to what your end result color - so gray primer would work for your project.

Q: Why is it recommended to use a paint extender when using metallic paint on wall?

I used acrylic and sat in the rain It did not work. I cannot answer this honestly.

It would not be suitable for painting a sink that you actually use with. It's water based and meant for dry interior surfaces.
