Due to the Velcro, I would only hand wash it. I have Lupus flares and only use it for short periods. I have not "sweated" in it.

Why does it smell like gasoline, we are choking and tearing up after opening the package?

As I recall, mine smelled only like new materials. Everything has some smell to it but this wasn't anything distracting at all. I certainly don't remember it smelling like gasoline. I would have never worn it if it had.
