This is an awesome book-and reminds a person that balanced trimming is an important, easily overdone piece to equine care. I really appreciated the extensive pictures, the reminder that the sole/frog-for the most part are perfectly capable of trimming themselves with balanced wall care, and it made me understand why my horses are always a bit "touchy" after the "benign" farrier visits. If you are a beginning horse owner or unable to trim your own, I still recommend this, and other barefoot trimming guide books by Jaime Jackson, Pete Ramey and Maureen Tierney. Your horse benefits when you and the farrier are on the "same page.", and the farriers job is much simpler with each visit.I have bought an electric hoof knife (which I won't need much unless I miss several weeks of either trimming or riding) and some better, lighter rasps for my small arthritic hands, and so far-we are doing great following these careful guidlines, some consulting with other books, frequent observations. I plan on doing this as long as I can and felt all were worth the investment-which was only about a hundred dollars more than one farrier visit to my four good friends. I also bought a 70 some dollar Ryobi battery operated sander that looks a bit like an iron. It does an awesome job of finish sanding or upkeep sanding on a weekly basis, and is easy, EASY to handle. The critters appreciate me holding it upside down and giving them a massage first....Not a sore step, occasional small chips out of the quarters-easily rounded, lots of ability to return over and over to the books, and those "small sand cracks" that the farrier said were "nothing, and were just part of the hoof wall on my filly" no matter what I fed her, what boots I gave her, nor how I fussed and fiddled with supplements and exercise regimens...are disappearing with better mustang rolls and more frequent touch up sanding/ trimming. I'm SO excited! BUT-all this said-I still have an old Morgan who has been barefoot for years and years and STILL requires easy boot gloves, or during heavy use-I put padded shoes on his front, because he just seems to ALWAYS have a "thin sole"...though the shape, frog health, wall thickness and overall appearance of his feet is gorgeous...so pay attention to your critter!

Absolutely fantastic book! As a student of several barefoot trimmers, Pete Ramey, Jamie Jackson, the ABC method and several others this book is excellent. If you wish to just learn the basics and why Pete Ramey's book is still the best step by step method with food drawings and pictures. This book has amzing photos of different hooves and what to do with each one for the step you are on. Hundreds of them, tons of cadavers that are done incorrectly so you can see why and what NOT to do. Good instructions as well and information.I have probably 20 manuals on hooves and this is definitely one of the best to trim and learn about different feet. I learned something new on probably every other pg that I had not known, or had heard before but not completely understood the mechanics of it. Lots of study of the corium and bruising of it.Photos showing how to hold the tools and some different styles and angles of filing to remove flare and balance the heels I had not read before. Excellent read. I keep it next to the couch to reference til I memorize all the important points. The best clearest photos and manual I've read other than Pete Rameys newest one. I'm a bit of a hoof geek

I am a novice in this field and can therefore attest to the fact that this book is outstanding in its value; teaching all necessary instructional steps and more to better comprehend and as a result, to put that knowledge to adept use within your natural hoof care.Lydia Nevzorova is the most incredible horsewoman I have ever encountered! Her dedication, intellect & passion put into practice and hence, her unprecedented empathetic approach towards horses is precious and positively unique. This quite comprehensive subject she converts, with the help of exquisite photographs, into easy to follow and well organized categories, followed by in depth and extremely detailed explanations of every day hoof care. The horse and its health and well-being in general, are always the number one priority.I would imagine that even the most experienced hoof care individual can learn a lot via this exploration tool. It is definitely a scientific read and along term commitment of research about hoof structure, its anatomy and influence of different types of trimming; although, the never ending photographs, countless aids like arrows and hints and reminder boxes, will soon uncover that even a person who's never seen or heard of a horse' hoof before, can follow along effortlessly. "Bravo!" A job well done.

After you get used to looking at cadaver feet, this is an exceptional book for learning the hoof and how to barefoot trim the the equine foot. This book was critical in helping me save my horse. I took him away from a farrier who didn't notice my horse had fungus/white line disease all the way up to the coronet band in all 4 feet. I removed his shoes and started barefoot trimming him just in time to prevent founder in all four feet. I studied this book endlessly and don't know if I would have succeeded without it. The translation fromm Russian isn't perfecr, but my horse made it and is back in training with me in Dressage! (Since he had to grow out his entire hoof and laminae after the entire fungus was cleared, treatment to full health took 18 months - he will stay barefoot - and now there are no long term issues to deal with)

This book is helping me learn ALOT- I am trying learn to barefoot trim my horses and this book is so informative, easy to read and provides incredible photos (so many photos!!) it’s like learning on a variety of horses. I really recommend this book to anyone who is trying to learn the art of barefoot trimming.

Clearly written, lots of photographs with examples. Useful for any horse owner who needs to start understanding hooves in order to take care of them properly. Great step by step guidance for beginning trimmers. The author is also including references for further research. A must read for any horse owner.

An essential book for every horse owner, it sets you up for success in learning to care for your horses hoofs yourself. I'm just starting out to learn to trim and this book is my bible, the only book written solely for the horse and trimming for their well-being.

One the most comprehensive books about trimming on the market! A must have for everyone, horseowners, practitioners and veterinarians. Wonderful book!!

In diesem reich bebilderten Buch findet sich alles, was man theoretisch wissen muss, um einigermaßen "normale" Hufe ohne krasse Pathologien bearbeiten zu lernen. Die Methodik ist quasi das Beste aus verschiedenen Schulen der Hufbearbeitung, und der wichtigste Merksatz lautet: Do no harm!Es wird Schritt für Schritt auf die verschiedenen Teile des Hufes eingegangen und ausführlich erörtert, was wann und warum wieviel bearbeitet werden sollte. Ich mag einerseits die Ernsthaftigkeit, die wiederholten Warnungen, worauf zu achten ist, und dass nichts am Huf leichtfertig geschehen darf, und andererseits die minimalistische, undogmatische Art der Methodik. Alles richtet sich nach dem individuellen Tier, dem Boden, der Haltung, und an diversen Stellen wird erwähnt, dass über Thema X unter den Experten Unstimmigkeit herrscht. Dies macht einiges für mich als "Nichtprofi" außerhalb der Hufszene transparent und nachvollziehbar und bietet mir einen erfrischenden Gegensatz zu diversen anderen Werken, die allesamt die ultimative Wahrheit für sich gepachtet haben wollen.Obwohl das Buch sehr umfangreich ist, wird nicht auf spezielle Krankheiten und Probleme eingegangen, dies will das Werk aber auch gar nicht tun. Man erhält jedoch Hinweise, in welchen Werken von Autor xyz mehr darüber zu finden ist.Die Bilder sind in sehr guter Qualität, sind sehr vielfältig und mit reichlichen Erklärungen ausgestattet, sodass mit etwas Durchdenken umfassende Klarheit über jeden Teil der Hufkapsel geschaffen wird. Auch die Texte sind gut zu lesen, die Sprache klar und einfach, und obwohl auch Fachbegriffe aus der Veterinärmedizin verwendet werden, war es mir nie zu viel. Gutes Englisch natürlich Voraussetzung.

This book covers a lot of practical information and good phots for illustrating points being made. Better trimming technique than some methods. Helpful for beginners and more experienced trimmers.

Libro pensato per i non professionisti, ma dá delle buone basi di conoscenza del piede e del giusto concetto di pareggio. Completo di foto esplicative, l' ho trovato molto interessante e secondo me fondamentale per ogni proprietario che voglia valutare la salute dei piedi del proprio cavallo...anche se non esegue il pareggio personalmente.
