This is even better than the original, since the velcro fastening is a full width strip.

It's lightweight. A pity you have to undo the cable from its tidy to fill and empty the tank. Not sure it's any more efficient than a mop and bucket but easy to use. We have a dog and stone floors in the kitchen and conservatory and I like to think the hot steam kills any bacteria.

I've dogs, hens & a cat so my floors can get quite mucky. Obviously the hens aren't constantly walking into the house but they free roam in the garden & even when looking where you're walking chicken poo gets walked into the utility room. So I am constantly cleaning floors & after a bad car accident it's a painful & slow job.I'd seen various excellant reviews for this steam mop in magazines & read the reviews on Amazon & despite a few negative ones I finally decided to order one. I also ordered a pk of extra mop floor pads at the same time.As soon as it arrived I was eager to try it out so swept the floor ready to start. It looked simple enough. The pad is dead easy to apply; just place it on the floor with Velcro facing upwards & place the bottom of the mop onto. Then fill the tank with cold water with the plastic jug provided. Select the type of floor you're cleaning on the dial. I started of on a laminate floor. Plug in and switch on. Blue light comes on & within a few seconds changes colour & you're read to clean. It's very light & easy to manovere & actually it makes cleaning floors a bit of a doddle. No filling buckets of water, no ringing out of the mop & no need to dry off the floor afterwards. So happy was I with the results on the laminate floor I moved on to ceramic tiles in the utility room. Now this would really test it, with dried patches of chicken poo & cat & dog footprints all over. Having swept & turned the dial to tiles I started. I allowed the mop to stay on stubborn stains bait longer & eventually it lifted & the floor came up lovely & clean. I now pre wet stubborn dried on mud or chicken poo stains. The cloth was filthy, I removed it & put it in the washing machine. It came out clean but had shrunk a little... still fits though. Ive used the mop on marble & wood & am very pleased with the results & how quick I'm able to clean my floors. I would never have thought I'd get excited about cleaning floors but it's now become almost a pleasure certainly never a chore. I might go as far as say if my husband had bought me it I would have been pleased ( maybe not as much if it was a birthday present but anything is better than nothing) & surprised as he's never bought me anything that would make life easier for me!

The replacement pads are ideal.

These mop heads were great value for money, easy to take on and off and just pop it in the washer to clean, nothing hard about them. A dream to use.

These will eventually be required after 100 or so washes of the pair you receive when you purchase the Black & Decker FSMH1621-GB Autoselect Multi-Floor 7-in-1 Steam Mop or the Black & Decker FSM1600 Steam Mop. Although you could go on using the original set for ages more, the new ones remind you how thick and soft yours were, at first.Sterilising and laundering the steam mop heads in the washing machine with some other cotton items say dog towels will restore and refresh the pads, to the extent that they are a pleasure to use with a clean scent of washing powder rising up as you mop.I think the main reason will be looking for replacements though, is the inevitable deterioration of the velcro strips, which begin to give way, meaning it is easier for the pad to detach itself from the mop which can be annoying. Black and Decker say 100 washes as the life for these, so you can expect that something will give after that.Using a steam mop is a revelation after squeezing out black water from those foam/sponge mop heads that crumble and break up far quicker than these pads. This is because the steam mop only ever uses water, no products such as bleach or floor cleaner are ever required.Another good service from Black and Decker for the 'Stepford Wife' I am in danger of becoming!.
