Best by option for roller track ball mouses

This connected quickly and seamlessly. I have had no issues or glitches. The battery life is excellent. I am replacing all my mice with one of these

Works well (less than 1 week usage) - no serious complaints

I was looking to replace my Logitech M570 - it has lasted many years although this long stint involved a lot of frustration with automatic double clicking, sticky left click and finally the left click dying all together. The successor seems to have the same issues so I was looking into reviews of alternatives and that left me with a feeling that its going to be a total shot in the dark to replace the M570. Anyway, after a lot of review perusal, I picked the Perixx. This review is after about a few days of regular usage. The real test is longevity so a longer term review will follow when I get there. So far, my experience has been very good to excellent.- The mouse connected to its receiver without any issues - everything was plug-and-play - no software or anything installed.- My setup is an HTPC - so my receiver is about 10 feet from where the mouse is. The mouse sits either on a sofa cushion or a sofa arm. Neither surface is a hard surface. I experience very occasional stuttering but usual experience is pretty smooth.- The trackball is smooth to the touch - fits snugly - but moves smoothly. I don't feel like I need to put excessive force to move the trackball. I have so far not had to clean it or the sensors. It doesn't fall over if I tip the mouse.- I can get reasonably accurate with the mouse - I am not doing anything that requires super precision. I am able to select text, press buttons, menus without any annoyance.- It feels larger than the MX 570 - more horizontal space. All five fingers have grooves and rest comfortably. The mouse overall feels comfortable - no complaints. The whole surface has a rubberized matte texture to it - feels nice to the touch. The ball is maroon - the overall look is good.- The mouse wheel is a little clicky when it scrolls - that's fine too. What is mildly annoying is that the mouse wheel click is hard and moves the mouse on the screen because of the force it needs. But there aren't too many reasons for me to use this button so it doesn't really matter much.- At this point (less than 1 week in), I didn't feel the need for any "break in" of the mouse, and the left and right mouse buttons click accurately.- There are 2 additional buttons which do browser back/forward. I have not configured or used these much.- The mouse goes to "sleep" if idle for a few minutes and moving the trackball does not wake it. Its a little annoying that I have to click a button. I don't think the button click registers so its not terrible. There might be a setting somewhere to change this behaviour but it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it.All in all, very satisfied with the mouse and a worthy replacement to the MX570 so far.

So impressed I bought the wireless Perixx 717 too - looking for alternative to faulty M570

I picked up this wired version of the trackball mouse as I look for alternatives to the Logitech M570. I am very impressed. So impressed by this Perixx 517 trackball mouse that I also got the wireless version, Perixx 717 for my main setup. It works just a well. Feels like the same mouse, but wireless.I am so tired of replacing the M570 due to faulty left mouse button after a year and a half. I will update this review if the same button issue crops up. However, because of how well it works, and being so much cheaper than the M570/M575, I would still get the Perixx mouse over the Logitech.(Note: as the 517 & 717 are listed on Amazon together, I cannot write separate reviews. I will highlight any differences in the review, but they are basically the same mouse)Critical: (Positive to follow)The only downside I found is the trackball is a little more stiff to roll. I was initially worried about more thumb fatigue, but this has not been the case. If anything, this subtle resistance makes it a little easier to control the curser, especially on high DPI.The Wireless 717 also uses two AAA batteries. Maybe not a negative per say, but I suspect they will not last as long as the Logitech M570. Have not needed to recharge them yet.Positive:I do like the two DPI buttons. I used to turn my mouse speed way up in windows for the M570. I like the mouse curser to travel far without much trackball rolling. I was able to turn windows mouse speed down and use the faster DPI setting for normal use, and press the slower DPI button for finer mouse actions. This is a really nice feature over the Logitech offering.I like the finish of this Perixx 517 trackball mouse too. It is more like a soft rubber texture compared to the M570 plastic. I think this is what contributes to the slight resistance I mentioned about. The size of the mouse is perfect. I do have larger hands. Very comfortable mouse. My new standard for trackball mouse comfort.I read a review criticizing the middle mouse button, and when I tried to test for that, it was not a problem for me. The button is perhaps not exactly centered with the wheel but it is centered for the click motion down towards the desk. This seems to be intentional and well engineered for better ergonomics of the mouse. I did not notice an issue with my initial test for this problem. My natural middle button press triggered the click. Only after clicking a few times did I notice what that review may have been talking about. All the buttons have a nice responsive click to them. One review commented about the Perixx 717 going into sleep and needing to click a button to wake it. I did notice that. I tend to use the scroll wheel to wake it up. I use my mouse a lot more, and often at the same time as my keyboard, so this is not as much of a problem for me.Over all I am very impressed. Time will tell if the same Logitech button problems crop up. But I will update if it does.
