An inspiration film and beautiful film...
I have been fortunate enough to have seen a lot of Van Gogh's work and found his story fascinating and so sad, so I was a little worried that this film might be a bit of a disappointment with such a high bar to reach. I had absolutely nothing to worry about. It's a beautiful and touching story of Van Gogh's tragic life. The music and cinematography - bringing the artwork to life - was absolutely incredible and had the rare effect of touching your soul. The casting was incredible with actors that brought the understated intensity to the story.I will say no more as I don't want to give any spoilers. Do not be put off by the uniqueness of this production, think that you need to like Van Gogh's work, or even that you have to like art. Take a leap of faith and buy this film - you won't regret it.

Vincent
The way the hole film was painted in the style of Vincent was good and the story set around his death was he murdered or did he kill himself was interesting.

Visually stunning but also fascinating on it's own merits
Firstly I have to say the visuals of this film are quite simply astounding, it is quite possibly the most beautiful film ever shot and every single frame oozes with beauty and hard work, you must watch the special features just to get a taste of how much hard work.If it was just the art of the film I would still heavily recommend it but it is also a fascinating film in it's own right, I confess to not knowing much more about the man than I was taught and truthfully a lot here could be said to be an interpretation of old notes and stories told at the time, but I choose to believe there is more than a shred of the truth here and truly it is such a sad and tragic story that fleshing it out is a boon to his story and not a distraction, I honestly cannot recommend this film highly enough.Even if you know nothing about the legend of Van Gogh or are deeply schooled in all things Vincent I guarantee that in this film you will find the heart and soul of this most haunted creator and be touched by the sadness inherent in his life that is so opposite to the joy his most famous works have brought to all who view them.

Starry Starry Night
This is an animated film that is not aimed at children, it tells the story of Armand Roulin who at the behest of his father is trying to deliver a letter from Vincent Van Gogh to his brother Theo this leads to a series of interviews with people who knew Vincent in the months before his suicide as Roulin tries to find someone to whom he can deliver his letter. But what makes this film astonishing is its style Armand Roulin actually existed and was painted by Van Gogh and it is the Roulin of the portrait who goes on this journey where he meets other subjects of Van Gogh's portraits. All these characters are animated as if they were painted by Van Gogh and the country side, cities and buildings are all as if they are by Van Gogh so you see the swirls and brush strokes of a Van Gogh in the animation its as if the story is occurring in a world created by Van Gogh. In between there are black and white animation to explain parts of the story where no Van Gogh pictures to tell the story. There are also excellent voice performances from Aiden Turner, John Sessions, Chris O Dowd and Douglas Booth. This all makes for a fascinating, astonishing and different piece of animation that will probably reward more than one viewing.

delightful unique presentation of the Vincent story
This is genuinely unique. Its an account of Vincents last months told mostly by the Postmasters son, with all the characters and scenery rendered by a team of artists into painted images, with the brushstrokes and style of VVG. It thus becomes a hand painted "cartoon" but this is actually successful in conveying the feel of Vincent's intense emotional paintings, so that the whole story comes to life in a wonderfully satisfying way. This has jumped straight onto my 10 best films of all time list. This Polish edition has a charming book of scenes that may have been in the film, as paintings, although the book text is all in Polish - but I loved the pictures..
