Great volume two
This is the second in a series of revised and expanded earlier books with new entries in the main section and in the appendixes, a few of the latter are from the book Terror of the Lost Tokusatsu Films. The new entries in the main section, which is in 3 parts, are Gogola (1966), Hiya Man (1967), Space Monster Wangmagwi (1967), Ganbare, Gojira! (1967), From the Depths (late 1960s), Hippie Carnage (1973), Terremoto 10 Grado (late 1970s), and Aadi Yug (1978).All the expected alternate versions and stuff are still here, Gamera movies, Kong movies, Godzilla movies, The Flying Battleshp (1967), Venus Fly Trap (1968), Adam of the Stars (1968), The Invisible Swordsman (1970), Horror of the Wolf (1973), The Human Torch (1974), Jumborg Ace and Giant (1974), Great Prophecies of Nostradamus (1974), 6 Ultra Brothers vs. the Monster Army (1974), Invisible Man vs. the Human Torch (project), Nessie (a Hammer-Toho project), After Japan Sinks (project), Blue Christmas (1978), and The Time Machine II.Yes, despite the title, not all of the movies are Japanese. Gogola and Aadu Yug are Indian movies, for example, and Korean, USA, and Italian movies have entries.Appendix one is a complete projects listing that includes material that is not in the main section and these include concepts that were not used for the final finished film, such as for Latitude Zero (1969). As this book does not just cover kaiju eiga, there are disaster movies, projects such as Invisible Beauties (1970), a 1972 Nessie project, a sequel to Great Prophecies of Nostradamus, Infra-Woman, Kongorilla, Battle of the Galactic Empire, and Great Planet War (a different version of War in Space).Appendix II has alternate versions of TV productions, including projects and unmade episodes of shows that did air. Here is where to read all about Ultra Q, Redman, Ultraman, Leopardman, Jaguarman, Jekyll and Hyde, Jumborg Ace, Mighty Jack, Daimaijin, Elementman, Space Apeman Gori, Majin Goron, Mirrorman, Mirror Red, Silver Mask, Garla, Mr. Monster, and much more, even unmade episodes of the Hanna-Barbera animated cartoon series version of Godzilla.Appendix III has additional tokusatsu movies that were not released in the USA, from Adventure in Kigan Castle (1966) to Great Tokyo Earthquake Magnitude 8.1 (1980). Actually, The Ivory Ape (1980) was made for the USA based broadcast network ABC, but it has never been officially on a home viewing format, which is why it is in this section.Appendix IV has 7 lost versions of USA re-edits of tokusatsu films, disaster movies, a couple of vampire movies that played on syndicated television, and ESPY are in this section.Appendix V is made of of pseudo-features that are made up of episodes of Japanese teleserials, examples of which are Fugitive Alien (1986), Time of the Apes (1987), and Swords of the Space Ark (1987).Appendix VIcovers the 3 Toho vampire movies of the early 1970s.Appendix VII covers the 7 disaster movies of Toho, from The Last War (1961) to Sayonara Jupiter (1984).The final appendix gives complete coverage of the original version of ESPY (1974), the dubbed version did not play in the USA until 1981.I would give more info on each section but the sample titles should give you an idea that a lot is covered in 345 pages with lots of monochrome pictures.
