A standard that is still built to provide many years of service.
What can you really write about this water bath cannery tool. I think they have been made and used for many decades and understanding the coating I am amazed at how creative people were in the past who created cooking utensils that hold up to the test of time. I think sadly that the organization that sets the standards for safe canning is moving more toward pressure cookers. But for those who can using a water bath this is probably what they already have and if they are reading this review they are looking to buy another one. For those new to canning this is a great product that will not set you back very much. My pressure cooker was much more expensive than this one and if you do you research those small pressure cookers are not considered adequate for canning so you need to go to the much larger pressure canning cookers which cost enough that it had me questioning my wisdom in wanting to can. I only can garden produce when I get more than I can eat so it is not like I can everything although it is a very effective way to preserve food pretty cheaply and safely.Simply stated this works great, is constructed to the same quality as some of my older pots of this type and provide a very effective and inexpensive tool to make your canning experience easier.

Worked great for my basic canning needs
This product is very large, so if storage space is an issue you might want to think twice. However, someone gave me the great idea of storing all of my canning stuff inside it, which helps to consolidate how much room I need. I have some small jars, tools, lids, pectin, etc. Stored in mine.I have tried canning in the past with just a stockpot and a homemade rack (jar rings tied into a circle with twine) because a regular rack didn't fit inside my pot. It was difficult to use and a huge pain in the rear. This canner made everything so much easier! I bought an extra rack because most canners I have seen came with a rack with wide slots, and small jars fall through them and end up on the bottom of the pot which completely defeats the purpose of having a rack. I can mostly small jars of jelly/jam, so that does not work for my needs. I bought a rack to go with it that had the smaller spacing I wanted, only to discover that this canner comes with the exact same one! So don't get yourself an extra rack like I did.I made grape jelly and it came out great, and the canner (but especially the rack) made the whole process a lot more enjoyable. I highly recommend this canner.

Just what I needed
I've had a Granite Ware canner that my mother used. It has to be over 50 years old. Now my daughter and I are sharing it as she enjoys the first big harvest from her garden. When I saw this offering at such a price, I was delighted and bought one for my use. The rack that is included is the one that allows more pint and half pint jars, and it has an extra support for the smaller jars, so there isn't tilting during processing. I know from experience that the canner will not rust if properly cared for. It will stand up to reasonable wear and tear, i.e. -- velvet gloves aren't needed. We include a dash of vinegar in the boiling water during processing, since the water in our area is hard. And there is no sign of mineral deposits in my mother's canner after years of constant use. This is an excellent product, and I recommend it to anyone who is storing food for the winter.

Best way to start canning.
I have a large garden so naturally I want to preserve food for year round enjoyment. When I started learning about canning, I discovered the easiest canning method was for high acid foods (foods with sugar or vinegar are high acid) because all I needed was a water-bath canner (and a few basic tools – a jar lifter, magnet lid lifter, a canning funnel and a ladle) so I purchased this one by Columbian Home. This 21.5 Quart black Granite Ware canner comes with a rack. The canner’s appearance reminds me of something old fashioned. It holds 7 quart jars. I found I can get about 10 pint jars into this canner without issue. Smaller jars can be stacked, but I don’t like to do it. The included rack only works well with quart jars though I have used it with pints and it corrodes easily. I have used this canner for pickles, salsa, jams and jelly. The bottom of the canner is not flat so it can be used safely on a flat top stove. The canner does chip if banged and the metal revealed after chipping rusts easily so this canner should be treated as gently as possible. While I really like this canner a lot, the price is a bit high for what you get. All in all, I would recommend this set, though I believe the rack is unnecessary, but I would look locally for a better price first. When I bought this I had no local options and was grateful to be able to get it.

Great for canning cuc's. Great price!
I'm the type of buyer, like many others, who like to read reviews about items before I buy them. I read the reviews about this canning pot and was a little hesitant about getting it but the price was right and it was just what I was looking for so I said what the heck. This pot has been through 40 quarts now and I have no complaints about it. I see some people complained that food stuck to it and that it's flimsy. The instructions clearly say this pot is for water bath canning only, so why post a review about cooking in it when it's not meant for that? Also the flimsy claims I can't justify. The wire rack and pot with lid have performed very well and will be ready for service for many years to come. You won't find anything better at a price like this and I highly recommend this product for those who want to make some great pickles.
