Disgusting disgusting disgusting........addendum on my original review which is below this update.
In August 2019 I purchased this item via Amazon which was supplied by Michael James Direct (MJD). Over the years I’ve had a few of these halogen ovens which have been supplied by various outlets and I appreciate they have a lifetime usually dictated by use. This one supplied by MJD was adequate for the price paid and came with a 2yr guarantee, no complaints there. After some 14 months it stopped working, it wouldn’t operate with the handle in the on position, a faulty switch I presume. I contacted Amazon and was given instructions to return the unit lid to MJD and on proof of postage I would be refunded the same which, I was in good time.Imagine my surprise when a week later I received an Email from MJD accusing me of rewiring the unit so it operated with the handle in the up position, they demanded the return of the £9.99 return postage (which Amazon had deducted from their account), they wanted £15 to rectify the wiring before return, told me not to attempt to deny That I’d rewired the unit or they would send the unit to an independent electrician to prove this and send me the bill which could run to several hundred pounds. Two phone calls and several Emails followed in which I was swore at and called a liar. I reported this to Amazon who refunded me the full cost of the original item. I was told by MJD that the result of the independent electrician would be forwarded to me and if I was not at fault I would receive an apology.Well, five weeks later and still no apology even though I sent a message to MJD last week stating if I did not receive an apology within 7 days I would post an honest review regarding this matter.I believe MJD have made this allegation to avoid a repair or replacement unit. Quite appalling for the sake of honouring the 2 yr warranty. In short their customer service is non existent. It’s worth looking at the customer service reviews in the 1* & 2* reviews. If you want to buy something from MJD I’d take note of the customer service reviews.Original review below.Absolutely disgusted to receive this Email having returned an item because it stopped working, alleging I've rewired the unit so that it operates when the handle is up in the off position..... I’ve asked them to ring me to discuss this. I’m certainly no electrician and wouldn’t know where to start. The unit worked perfectly for a good while and then give up the ghost, couldn’t fault it but hey, would anyone be foolish enough to do something like that. They’ve added two photos and the wiring certainly doesn’t look altered to me.Good MorningWe have been checking your item and it appears that it has been rewired by you incorrectly. It has clearly worked in the past as we can see the use it has had, it would certainly never work the way it is wired now. The wiring has been rearranged so much so, that when the handle in down the unit is off, and when the handle is lifted up the power is on. This is the complete opposite of how it was designed. This is very dangerous indeed and could have caused serious injury to our technicians. I enclose photographs to confirm. I can assure you that we take a very dim view of this type of dangerous inexperienced tampering with the electrical components. We note that you have also claimed back the cost of the return postage when you are returning an item with a warranty that is void due to tampering and in any event was your responsibility under the terms of the warranty. We now require you to pay £9.99 return cost together with £15 to rectify the wire tampering. Your confirmation by return would be appreciated.I respectfully suggest that you do not attempt to deny this or we will send the unit to an independent expert to get a report and we will not only send you that report we will send you his invoice as well which could be in the region of several hundreds of pounds. As I explained we have to take these matter of electrical tampering very seriously indeed.I await your comment whether you are paying for the repair and return or we should just dispose of the unit.Kind regardsCliveMJD
