Q: Why isn’t there one of claudette colvin...the real hero of that story

I agree she needs recognition but in terms of Civil Rights Movement, a decision was made to use Rosa Parks as the "start and face" because she was older. Claudette was only 15 years old at the time; we know that time was difficult for all people of color but can you imagine being only 15 and having to carry the weight of, technically, starting the Civil rights movement? Parks was an older woman who, unfortunately, had a lifetime of racism she'd already faced. My Grandparents and parents were VERY active in the Civil rights movement...heads and founders of chapters of the NAACP, bussing groups to march in various cities and states, being run out of cities by the KKK and having to relocate in a different region of the U.S.; when their children were infants and toddlers. As my parents got older, they got more and more involved but were not allowed on the front lines until they were adults because of how dangerous it was. I don't think it would've been safe for Colvin to be "the face" of the start of the Civil rights movement. There was ONE teen who tragically ended up as a face of the Civil rights era...Emmett Till. Im personally waiting for a Mary McLoud Bethune doll; shes my Great Great Aunt and a huge reason why Elenor Roosevelt was so active in human rights. SO many women need to be honored! Selecting Rosa Parks was a calculated choice; and let's be honest...how many people, other than those "who know", know of Claudette Colvin? She ABSOLUTELY deserves to be honored and when she is, I'll be there to pre-order mine!
