ASTERIX ALBUM 35: ASTERIX AND THE PICTS

being an asterix fanboy, like many of us are anyway, i was eagerly awaiting the release of this book. more so, it is like a collector's item since this is the first book written and drawn by folks other than Goscinny and Uderzo. wasn't expecting too much from the book, and that's what it finally was. the content, though better than the last few asterix outings (falling sky, all at sea) this book is not something in the league of Laurel Wreath or Big fight. the plot is thin, the addition of the loch ness monster isn't really helping and of course, the ending is predictable. what i did like about the book is the art. Didier Conrad, though remaining faithful to the Asterix style, has made sure he leaves his own mark in it too. So, if the naysayers say that the art has been copied/mimicked/mocked...they'd be wrong. i liked the fresh new look. a good hardcover asterix #35 will sit pretty in your collection. i would still give it 4 stars, solely for the art. if you're looking for Pulitzer material....skip.

Its been a while since we got a well rounded adventure from the Asterix canon. With that master tale spinner Goscinny not around, Uderzo did a fabulous job at the art but not at the script. With that becoming the trend, this legendary world appeared to be doomed to be frozen.Jean-Yves Ferri, the new story teller, has resurrected this celebrated village in style. It has all the magic of the olden times, the action, adventure, and at times predictable lines, yet with enough happening. The story is also refreshing and reminds of several past adventures. there is a lot happening, and is busy just as the Gaulish village is known to be. Its comical, funny and very colorful.Didier Conrad, who has taken the mantle from Albert Uderzo, has brought the story to life faithfully in the Marcinelle style, that Uderzo popularized. and his style fits right in with so many things in each frame that came to define this adventure series.I enjoyed reading an Asterix after a long time, and certainly recommend this for the fans of Asterix, and also to a new generation who can get started on this and go back to the original series.

Very nice, loved the illustrations and the translation.

This comic isn't as good as when Goscinny was the author but it is still better than the ones authored by Uderzo. The art work is excellent. The plot is good, but the the puns aren't as great as they used to be and the spoofing of the natives is definitely not in the category of earlier works like Asterix in Britain/ Corsica/ Switzerland etc. Still, all in all, this is definitely a book worth buying and it's great that the legendary Gaul has received a fresh lease of life.

Always a fan of Asterix & Obelix. This is a good little adventure. Liked it!

Being an avid Asterix fan, I was afraid this new book by a new team would not meet my expectation. But after reading it, I have to say I enjoyed it ...tho' there can be more improvement. Am also happy that Asterix will continue to entertain us fans in the coming future, tx to the new team!

Oh God it was a really lame story, what wait a minute, there was a story???? So lame that I left it after trying to read it 3/4 of the way, beyond horrible

I am reading this books for twins : 5 years old... they just don't want to read anything else. The pictures are very good quality as the painting material..very nice books

Any Asterix fans know how brilliant the series is. This rebooted series will bring back the good old Asterix - Obelix adventures, especially the drawing is 99.99% similar. Although the quality of the story is still a bit far from the great Goscinny. But it's Ferri's first book, I will give him time. Meanwhile, I will enjoy all my favorite characters enriching my imagination again.
