Of what material are these mats made?

It feels like rubber, not plastic as it bends but at the same time is sturdy. We really like the set. Our daughter not only walks on it, but uses it as a giant puzzle also.

Are these hard or soft? Do they give in when you step or firm?

They feel like rubber bath mats. They do not cave in. Firm.

What is the cleaning/washing instructions for these?

I just vacuum them with a brush usually. If they get really gross I’ve washed mine in the sink with mild soap and warm water and then let them air dry (I’ve only done this once and they were fine). When I let them dry, I did lay them flat to dry on a towel and then flip them and let both sides kind of dry out flat so the pieces wouldn’t get into any kind of wonky shape. We absolutely love these and want to make our set bigger!!!
