Just the ticket for a technician who "sweats through" everything in their pocket.
I gave the RITR No. 754 (3.5" X 5" memo book w/ Field Flex cover) a try because all my other notebooks (Moleskines) would get ruined by sweat and fall apart before I could fill them. These fit perfectly in a Dickies uniform shirt pocket with just enough room for two pens. The folded page sections, which are made from a very sturdy paper, are welded to the synthetic cover by a strong glue. The pages will curl, albeit not excessively, if you write with a heavy hand and bleed-through with a ballpoint is minimal. Furthermore, while the book is stiff enough that it won't lay perfectly flat, it's still flexible enough to conform to your pocket. No big deal for me, as I'll gladly sacrifice a little flexibility for strength. Additionally, I want to point out that the first and last pages will tear away from its opposite if you forcibly fold the cover open to fully use their space, but the glue still holds the detached page tightly to the cover; they're not going to fall out on their own. I also like that the cover barely peels at all from the edges and corners, a big disappointment with other notebooks that use vinyl laminated to a card stock backing and become dog-eared and ratty looking very quickly. As far as writing goes, you don't need a Fisher Space Pen for these when they're DRY. I have zero issues writing with a Parker Jotter and a factory refill. (Edit, 8/27/15 - I should clarify that "factory refill" refers to the older, NON-Quink cartridges. I haven't tried the newer style Parker refills, but anecdotal reports of their performance on RITR paper haven't been positive. Caveat emptor. As of this writing, I'm now using Fisher refills in my Jotter and they work superbly.) It won't write when wet, but the paper resists sweat so well that soggy pages are a non-issue. Whatever you write WILL NOT fade or wash away. With other notebooks, my notes would be faded to the point of being completely illegible after getting soaked with sweat. If writing in the wet is a must, carry a mechanical pencil (which I do anyway since I draft electrical schematics from time to time), or get a Fisher/RITR pen or refill. Speaking of pencil, I've yet to find an eraser that "works." Not even my Pentel Hi-Polymer erasers will remove pencil from RITR paper without lots of smudges/ghosting. That's not to say such an eraser doesn't exist (in fact, if you know of one, I'd like to know about it in a comment), but keep this in mind if you intend to use a pencil exclusively.Oh, and I guess I should point out in closing that this doesn't come with a built-in elastic band to hold it closed or a fancy pocket in the back. Big deal. This is a no-nonsense notebook designed to survive conditions that'd make a Moleskine disintegrate. I use a black hair band to hold mine closed. (Yes, a hair band. You can stop laughing. It works, and that's all I care about.)Bottom line: Despite the minor quibbles, these do their job exceptionally well, which is to keep my notes and references intact through rough use in the field. They earn every one of the 5 stars I give them.

Outdoor Writing Paper!
Ever been out in the rain and needed to write something important down fast? Ever left an important note on your sweetheart's car windshield only to have the rain disintegrate it? Good news, because 'Rite in the Rain' makes a great waterproof paper that will not only shed water after you've written on it, but you can actually write on it while it is raining. You would think that the coating (whatever it is) would prevent you from writing on it at all. Not so! I've written on mine with regular and mechanical pencils, regular ball-point pens Paper Mate InkJoy 700 RT Retractable Medium White Body Ballpoint Pen, Assorted Color, 4 Pack (1781586) a Fischer space pen Fisher Space Pen, Non-Reflective Military Cap-O-Matic Space Pen, Matte Black (SM4B) and felt-tip pens. They all work great on this paper. This particular one is in tactical green, which makes no difference at all unless you want your pad to look tacti-cool. They also come in tan and yellow... Inside the front cover are conversion tables, map scales, and short rulers in inches and centimeters. This model is not spiral bound, but memo-style, so it opens like a book. The pages can still be torn out, though, if you have to leave a note somewhere. While I haven't had opportunity to give this the acid test in rain-drenched Southern California, I have written notes to my wife that I put under the tap and sure enough - the water just rolled right off. (The wife, meanwhile, was unimpressed. Meh) This pad is ideal to have for outdoor pursuits: Hiking, backpacking, birding, camping, traveling... you name it. For backpackers, in addition to making a great journal it also doubles as emergency tinder to start a fire because, after all, it doesn't stay wet.I carry one in my day bag, and also always have one with me when on a day hike or backpacking. Durable and built for adverse conditions, this notebook is surprisingly useful. Highly recommended!

Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.
The media could not be loaded. Perfect size, perfectly waterproof, perfect number pf pages (most have a depressingly small amount which makes keeping one journal for a while difficult) and even has extra material on the inside of both covers!I will definitely buy again, and I will try out the Rite in the Rain pens!

High quality
This is a great item. Just a little too small and too few pages for me.

Great Field Notebook, But Not Weatherproof
I highly recommend this little notebook for data collection or quick note taking. Fits in most pockets, is highly durable, and is fairly rigid. However, using waterproof pens in a downpour can get messy. I expect the ink to run, but if you are not careful, it is possible for the Rite in the Rain pens to actually bleed through the paper. I am not criticizing this product, though - it goes far beyond the call of duty for field notebooks and will retain data for a long time for reference. I do bird census counts from waist-deep in tidal salt marsh in any weather and draw detailed diagrams of sea life on rocks in the water up to 20 meters from shore at low tide, so I put my notebooks through the worst conditions pen and ink could be subjected to. The only thing I've found to outperform the Rite in the Rain journals is making my own notebooks out of National Geographic's waterproof paper to print GPS and topo maps on, which gets expensive.

Perfect out west
I used it for a geology course and it was cheap but functional this is just a tiny hand sized book but it’s useful and has more pages than I needed.
