I am a very sensitive sleeper. I use an eye-mask, ear plugs, blue light blocker glasses before bed, etc. The bedtime rituals suck. I used to have a different white noise generator that played a more consistent noise that my hyper awareness picked up on and found it to be distracting. This one uses randomized sound that doesn't allow for pattern recognition.Very customizable with the right sound and volume that works for you. I have been able to rely on it both at home and while traveling with surprisingly good results. Usually on the road I get terrible sleep because it is a foreign environment and I am more hyper aware than even at home. I found this to help drown out that background anxiety as well. This is the perfect machine for blocking out distracting noises for any occasion. It's great when you're sleeping because it allows you to choose from 10 fan sounds and 10 white noise sounds for a total of 20 possible sounds. The volume is easily adjustable, but once you find the perfect settings you will probably just leave it. After I found the ideal fan sound and the ideal volume level, I only use the on/off button now. I love using this in the winter when it's too cold to run a fan in the room. I bought two of them so I could use one, and put one in the baby's room.

What took me so long to find this life saving gem? I live in a very loud area, near a beachside boardwalk. For many years, I have gone crazy with the noise of cars, yelling people, car music, etc. Not to mention a neighbor who I have even sprayed water towards ... I can't hear them anymore!During the day, I set it at a low pitch on the 'white noise' side and I can't hear a thing from outside. My home is now like a sanctuary instead of a torture chamber. I don't have my brain jarred from outside influences. At night, I raise the pitch, so I can hear the hum through ear plugs. I sleep all night now! Something that has been so rare since living here.Great product, highly recommend!!!

It got a high review in Wirecutter.com and on Amazon and I am delighted by it.I live in a major Asian city with lots of ambient noise from within the 30 story apartment building and outside. This will help.It is smaller than thought but that feature is a postive.

Small footprint (uses a step-down transformer plugged into the wall). Great way to mask out unwanted noise.
