Snowflake obsidian is an extrusive igneous rock that forms from volcanic lava. The traditionally black rock is speckled with white 'snowflakes' that are actually small, white needle-shaped crystals that form in a circular pattern as the rock breaks down over time. Each sphere is 40mm (1.58 inches) in diameter and includes a footed nickel stand. The spheres shown in the image are for example only.
