Works GREAT! Hard sticks-warm with blow dryer to apply to strop, belt sander or polishing disk.
6 different grits. Each stick is very firm. EASY fix, just warm with blow dryer until it becomes soft, then you can touch to spinning belt sander belt or polishing wheel, or apply to strop with your thumb-make sure you did not get too hot. Best edges I've had in a long time. I also use diamond paste-I don't see much difference and this is much cheaper. I apply different grits to different sections of the soft side of a leather belt (~ 6-9"). You can also apply to the smooth side of the leather, but I prefer the smooth leather untouched. Get a used belt from a thrift store-the bigger the better. Make sure it is GENUINE leather and not PU Leather (fake leather). Or purchase an already make strop. On a long belt I can get enough sections to apply all 6 compound grits to the belt. You can then lay it flat on a table/bench and use like a paddle strop, or hand from belt buckle and use like a hanging strop. If you hang the belt be sure to pull taught, otherwise the leather will wrap over the edge and cause curling and dull the edge. A taught strop with a VERY light touch works great.Mine came in a zip lock baggy, but each stick was individually wrapped, not in commercial packaging. Would I knock a star off for this-NOOOOO. I'm rating the product, not the packaging that will just be thrown away.

Great for the price
I read other reviews stating that they received these in poor condition and/or crumbly, and decided - for the price - I'd try it anyway. I have absolutely no complaints, and only a couple of details that I thought I'd mention, even though to me they are minor: The blister pack does allow grit from the bars to mix, small chunks of one color can be found stuck to another bar. I simply wiped them clean with some rough shop cloth I had lying about - no problem. These seem to be a hard wax binder as a carrier for the grit, and I've only used the black and red grits (mostly the black) so I can only say that those two work fine, and I expect the others will as well. I did come across one small (about 1 mm) "dot" of white in the middle of the black bar. While I suspect this is due to poor process control at the factory, and I know that the finer grit embedded in my coarse grit is not a problem, I will be unhappy if I mess up a polishing job due to a "dot" of coarse grit getting loaded onto my fine grit wheel, but really, I don't know if I'd notice the difference in the polish...

Good set of all the buffing compounds you could possibly need for "normal" projects.
This is a nice assortment of medium sized bars of a wide range of buffing compounds. Years ago i bought a Dico assortment that came in little tubes, and the tubes are a pain. I've only used two of these so far - brown tripoli and the rouge. They work well, and seem as good as any other polishing compound I've used over the years. (I sort of have a "thing" for polishing things that get dull or rusty. This is a good assortment with bars big enough to be useful, if I find I'm using one or more color(s) more than the others I can always get a bar of that color(s).I took off one star since I would gladly pay a little more for a set like this that came in a case (and one that doesn't shatter or fall apart) with the chart of which compound/wheel to use on what materials. It would be even better if that case could hold the bigger bars they sell as "refills" to this kit. I'm creating my own with a storage case from HF, but I'd rather spend my time doing useful things.
