Excellent light-weight burner for hiking/camping especially for quickly boiling water ...
Excellent light-weight burner for hiking/camping especially for quickly boiling water for dehydrated meals. Being titanium, I don't worry about it getting bent up or crushed in my pack. Testing this stove with the newer factory pot cross stand (higher above flame jets than the original version) I got 2 cups of room temperature water in the DZO 20 oz stainless cup/pot to a full boil in 4:55 and burnout in just under 10 mins with one once yellow HEET/methanol. Because the Evernew has an inner wick, full bloom takes only about 15 seconds as opposed to the clones on the market that take several minutes to bloom, lacking an inner wick. Some have criticized this Evernew as being a "fuel hog." If by that they mean it heats quickly & boils quickly than yes it is. But that does not mean it is inefficient. Using only 1/2 oz of yellow HEET I still got 2 cups to boil in 5:30 just before burnout in 6 mins. A 2-cup boil with only 1/2 oz fuel is a very efficient stove. I haven't been able to do that with any of my several homemade "supercat" stove designs. Testing the simmer mode (pot directly on top of stove) with 1 oz HEET, I got a full boil in 10:45 and a burnout in 23:52; slow enough that you should be able to cook say, bacon and eggs or fry a steak without burning them. In the Evernew Titanium I've found exactly what I need for the trail and I've stopped making and testing my own - I can't make one better.

Fuel Hog? Yep, and that's why I LOVE IT!!!
White gas has an output of around 20,000 BTU. Isobutane 21,500 BTU. Alcohol on the other hand is about 1/2 that at 10,000 BTU. In order to get boil times close to approaching the aforementioned fuels, you're going to have to burn more/faster with an alcohol stove. It's simple math. This little baby does the trick. It will indeed consume about 1 oz. of alcohol to boil 2 cups of water (of course depending on elevation, water and air temp, etc.). That 1 oz of alcohol will be used up in around 6 minutes. For those of you complaining that this stove is a "fuel hog". Duh. That's exactly what its designed to be, i.e. hot and fast.Don't worry that you can't conserve the remaining fuel with a screw on lid like the Trangia. Simply take care to measure the amount of fuel you put in to begin with. I use a twin neck fuel bottle https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OPH4U4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to pre-measure the fuel.At 1.2 oz. (stove only), this is my new favorite. I use 95% pure grain alcohol (Everclear or equivalent), and have no concerns about toxicity. Coupled with the Evernew DX Stand, it's a fabulous ultralight option for your camp kitchen, weighing in at just 3.1 oz. total. Plus you have the option of a wood burning stove in the DX stand, so if you do run out of fuel, you're not left up a creek without a stove. What you don't use to heat your food makes for great camp cocktails. What more could you ask for? This is my new go to stove.

this is the second evernew titanium alcohol stove I own. I like it so much I wanted a spare (I keep at least 1 full set of gear extra in case someone wants to go hiking that doesn't own gear). I will base the rest of the review on my usage for the previous year of the stove:I hike all 4 seasons and winters here can get down into the teens during daylight hours. Even though many people say not to use alcohol stoves in winter, I have never had a problem. However, one thing I do that those people might not is to carry the alcohol in a bottle inside of my jacket between the jacket and my baselayer. This pre-warms up the alcohol and allows it to light quicker. Another thing I do, place a piece of aluminum foil under the stove so it reflects the heat and keeps from melting the snow and the stove sinking into the ground (if there isn't something solid to stick the stove on), Finally, use another piece of aluminum foil as a windscreen. This allows whatever heat during the warmup to be reflected back into the stove and also helps to heat up the fuel. The windscreen will also drastically reduce boil time of water too...sometimes by as much as 1/2. If you do these simple things .... this stove will work down to the single digits, potentially lower. As far as the other three seasons .... I do the same things except not worry about pre-heating the fuel with body heat.Excellent stove!
