For the novice – beginner - like myself
Having to be honest a rock is a rock right? Who flipping cares - WELL NOT SO FAST! This is actually one neat, incredible subject!!! The family who created this geology game made the study of rocks and minerals VERY interesting - and compelling! The kit contains:Metamorphic: Quartz, Feldspars, Jasper and Labradorite (about one inch)Igneous: Quartz, Unakite (granite), Gabbro, Feldspars, Jasper and Labradorite (about one inch)Sedimentary: Quartz, Septarian, Feldspars and Jasper (about one inch)Mineral: Sodalite, Rhodonite and Orange Calcite (about one inch)Gem: Amazonite (about one inch)Crystal: Selenite “Rose” (about one inch)Fossil: Petrified Wood (about one inch)(There is one larger card with the main rocks, mineral, gem, crystal and fossil. Also, included with each larger rock is a sturdy informational card. Also, If you notice there are rocks that can be grouped in all three groups metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary.)A bag of smaller nice quality polished rocks and minerals (we received 86) and rock & mineral guide on a sturdy card.3 Rock My World trivia cards & 6 game cards – instructions included for gamesThis is a great beginning of the study of rocks, minerals, gems, crystals and fossils. Go beyond the game and discover that Gabbro often contains valuable amounts of chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt) and copper sulfides (CuxSy). YES, the periodic table! This is the reason we bought this kit!We also purchased: Introductory Earth Science Classroom Rocks and Minerals Collection, they complement each other well. And to look at these beauties we purchased an Opti-Tekscope Digital USB Microscope Camera.ROCK ON! Great name – rock on to geology, chemistry, math, geography, architecture, jewelry - you name it.The colors in nature are incredible!

updated! GREAT COMPANY, great products!
The game is great. But the nice carrying case came to me in pieces. This was for my sons birthday, he loves it but with the case being broken I would have to return it. UPDATE: The game came in a simple bubblewrap envelope tossed into a large box with heavy items by Amazon. Definitly not the sellers fault! Im a busy single mom, teaching full time and trying to get through final quarter grading so I had not had a chance to contact Amazon. But it sure made my day when I got a package today with a WELL protected brand new case! The also were very sweet and added a unique new rock/mineral specimen for my son. Im a science teacher and I am super impressed with this game. I know where to shop now for all my earth science rock specimens. The new specimen they sent with the new case, comes with a very well designed and INTERESTING! Note about the rock, providing awesome facts for kids, in a manner that they can understand. I feel the need to complete my collection of rocks just for these awesome information cards for students!

Unique idea
This was a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. I love the idea of the game and the uniqueness of it. I did have to contact the sellers and they were extremely helpful. I support this small family run business 100%. The only reason it's not a 5-star review is because some of the rocks were too hard to tell apart even for the rock hounds in the family using the Bingo board and rock identification. Consider that a challenge and see if it you can tell them all apart.

Challenging but very kid friendly
We ordered this game for my rock-loving grandchildren's annual visit and it was a big hit. Recommended for 6 and up, we pushed the envelop a bit. Our 5 2/3 yr old granddaughter, about to start Kdg loves games, and we correctly guessed she would be ready for Rock On. She's on the edge of reading, pretty solid on letter recognition, starting to buy into the sound out concept and just a couple of rounds she knew all the rock names and was frankly better at matching them up to the cards than we were. Outside of the game, which we played regularly thru her week's stay, she loved matching the raw stones up with the polished rocks, sorting and classifying them in all sorts of original ways--obviously we think this was great. Her brother is 4 and REALLY loves rocks, but obviously is not ready for the formal game or for unsupervised time with the rocks. That being said, he was in 7th heaven to be able to examine and sort and hold all of the rocks provided. I can see this leading into some real rock hound experiences. Great concept, well executed, Thanks!

A gift for a 2nd grader
My grandson is into rocks. I was hoping to find something of further interest for him and this had good reviews and is a STEM based product (Science Technology Engineering and Math). I looked it all over when I received it and it's very well made. The rocks are very impressive. There are two kinds, "rough and natural" and a bag of highly polished and shiny smaller ones. There is a game that can also be played using these rocks and with the enclosed playing cards. Instructions are well explained. The box is sturdy, the cards are commercial quality and I am very pleased with the purchase. I think he will like getting this at Christmas and something different and challenging for him.

Super fun game & awesome customer service!
UPDATED: I originally reviewed this game as a 3, while feeling very disappointed in having to do that but at the same time, wanting to address some shortcomings. After I published my review, I was quickly notified by the company, who very promptly mailed me a new kit (including materials I felt were lacking from my original kit). I'm not sure if they updated it after I received my first one or if my kit was just missing something, but I can tell you as of the end of March 2017 this is a GREAT EDUCATIONAL TOOL that helps you identify every rock, mineral, and fossil in the kit. And, it was a BIG hit with my kids 7 & 6 AND their uncle who was visiting (he is a geology student in college). I'd still share that the kit is mostly made of minerals, which are beautiful specimens. As a homeschool mom, I had complained about the kit not containing samples of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks to teach the rock cycle, but my updated kit included specimens of each. I have been very pleased with the people and products of this company. Keep up the good work!
