A Grocery Worker's Best Friend
I've used PHC cutters for the better part of 15 years now. I started on the S4R, but then moved on and tried the S8 and hated it. The ambidextrous design was nice, but it made the body too flimsy, and the whole thing was bulky. Enter the S5R. Yes, it's right-handed only, but I'm usually the only one who uses it, and I'm a righty. The extra addition of the film cutter, while it isn't as easy to access since you realistically need two hands to get to it, is really handy. I'd say the only drawback is that I've had mine stolen by greedy coworkers (it's delightfully bright green, it's very obvious), but I like this cutter so much I've bought a few over the years. Another good point is that they're very easy to maintain.

Great for work.
My experience with these started with a lower level model. They work beautifully for opening cardboard boxes, display cuts, and busting tape. Getting the film cutting hook open is not easy to do, but it is very effective. I bought the holder and the lanyard so you never lose or misplace it. Be sure you buy a box of blades- they are brand specific- and the tool arrives with NO spare blades included. Yes, you can turn around a used blade and use the other end. These may cost a bit more than a cheaper box cutter- but the difference in use and control is huge. If you do a lot of stocking, this is a great product.

Efficient, Safe, Very Handy!
I've had this product for months now, and still haven't even needed to flip the blade yet! I seldom need the blade because of the tape splitter. I work in a high volume retail store. I stock shelves for 4 out of 5 workdays and need something I can rely on that's fast and safe. The tape splitter reduces the chances of cuts by many times. The film cutter is handy when I get a case of bottles or when I have to quickly cut a strap or cord. I never take the time to write these reviews, but this box cutter is amazing. I hate to carry things in my pockets, so the light design of this cutter is great. The blade has three use settings, each of which I have needed from time to time. More companies should make this a standard issue work supply to increase efficiency while decreasing workplace accidents. Five stars and two thumbs up!!!

Really great concept. A bit of a bother that you have to buy specialty blades since they're somewhat pricey, but again, I think they're worth it. Also, feels a bit flimsy since it's made entirely out of plastic; i.e., if you're used to your standard metal box cutter knife. The black hook doesn't replace as easily/cost-effectively as I'd like. The "switch" sticks a bit but working it a lot and/or adding a drop of oil helps. Also, would be awesome if the price were lower. However, since it's something of a specialty item, economies of scale and competition may not help reduce the price. I saw every worker at our local Trader Joe's carrying one of these, so you know it must be awesome!Sounds silly, but it really does take a bit of training. You really need to read the directions! Blade storage/changes, and using the hook are not entirely intuitive. The workmen I tried to get to use this new-fangled device seemed to scoff at it; but they're not Millennials, if you know what I mean. Still, the possibility of preventing thousands of dollars in damaged product in a year makes these worth it.

I bought two of these. I have not used one yet, but I slid the blade out and checked how well the hook blade release was, and so far so good.Exactly like the box knife we have at work. Mine was finally starting to just wear out. I have to flick the box knife now in order to get the hook blade out now, which is kinda fun, but it's not practical. I've dropped it over the 2 years(almost 3 now) I've had it. I will still keep my old one as my back up should my two new ones not last. I'm really hoping they will be as sturdy as my first.

A must have
If you are even looking at this tool, then you, like me, put a n too many hours at your job. This blade however will help you by making it easier and faster. First off, the s5,is bigger than the s4,longer and wider. It fits in my hand much better, and I don't drop it as much. The best feature of this blade is the hidden cutter in the back. By engaging the switch backwards, a small u blade pops out and makes for fast cutting of shrink wrap around sensitive product. I know don't recommend using it to the cut strapping, and neither does the company. It works, but has potential to be very dangerous. If you are wondering, it does fit in the s4 swivel holster, and I would assume, the leather version as well. Overall, between this and a good pair of kneepads, this has been one of my best investments for my job.

Gave it to a friend.
I ordered 2 different ones. Kept a different one because I didn't need the blade. On parole and wasn't sure if it was legal. They love it though, and is holding up really well. Only thing I don't like about it is you can't change the hook blade, which is what I use. Great box cutter though.
