Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC All-in-One Zoom for Nikon APS-C Digital SLR Black

I don't claim to be an expert on photography, but I've been involved with it for more years than I care to remember. This is not my first Tamron lens, so I had no qualms about buying a third-party lens provider - especially Tamron - since I've not had any negative experiences with their lenses. Quite honestly, I bought mainly for price. I shoot a lot of photos and my main lens is a Nikon 18-105mm which is not a stellar lens, but quite adequate and produces really good photos. I've found over the years that the 105mm end was running a little short on the reach that I needed. I looked at the Nikon 18-140mm, but still too shallow. 200mm was just right for me. I picked this Tamron 18-200mm based on price, size & weight, and vibration compensation. This lens exceeded my expectations. It works flawlessly coupled to my Nikon D5500. I'm quite satisfied. It focuses every bit as quickly (and more quietly I might add) as my Nikon 18-105mm and image rendering, to me, is every bit as good - a tad bit better in my opinion, than my Nikon lens. $200 is still considered a tab bit amount of money, but not really when you're talking lenses. So, comparing this with a lot of other lenses wouldn't be fair. However, all things considered, this is a really good lens for a really good price. I have no regrets and am quite satisfied.

I'm amazed by the shots I'm getting with this lens. For $200 it simply cannot be beat. It's the perfect entry-level lens. I'm an advanced hobbyist/semi-professional photographer. I have a good zoom lens that's got dust trapped inside. I need to send it out for cleaning. I bought this lens as a backup while the better lens is gone. I took it out to give it a test this morning. I'm amazed. The images are breathtaking. They're very good at any price but for $200! They're astounding. Now, I did do some correction in Lightroom and Photoshop. I would do that even with the best lens. I would recommend this lens to anybody who is not selling images for print. Especially vacation photographers and serious hobbyists.TIP: The images are best if the lens isn't pushed to it's limits. That is, wide open aperture will soften images a bit. The lens at its widest or longest will give vignetting and softening. Even so...just a little bit. I'd buy this lens again. For sure.

A friend of mine turned me on to Tamron lenses about 5 years ago. I use this lens on my Nikon D5200 DSLR. Wow, what a great lens for a great price! Granted, I'm an amateur photographer, but it does everything I need it to do! Fast focus. No detectable distortion or chromatics. The 18-200mm zoom is nice to have if you're shooting a portrait or something up close and then want to quickly snap something far away. Just point zoom and shoot. No need to go rifling through your camera bag for the zoom lens! Comes with a lens hood and a 6 year warranty! I do a lot of nature and landscape shots and find myself using this lens now about 80% of the time.

This lens is exactly what I was looking for in a lens!The 18-130mm lens (which came with my Nikon D7000 camera) I had for 7-8 years, finally crapped the bed about two years ago. I finally found this one after about a year of looking around; most of the Nikon lenses of the same length, had plastic mounting brackets and that was what created issue in my original. The original Nikon lens I had, the metal connector rods inside the plastic mounting bracket were acting out- they wouldn't connect and there was another issue with the autofocus prior to. The autofocus went out at the same time I had noticed some black soot inside of the lens (which, of course, was leaving disgusting black spots in my pictures).This Tamron lens is fantastic, because it focuses quickly, quietly, the focal lengths are wonderful for walk-around photography (nothing is ever out of reach!).However, as some other reviews mentioned,I have found that it does have some difficulty with low light. I haven't quite figured a way around that yet, other than cracking up the ISO, which normally drives me crazy (I need to get over it, the quality of the camera will allow ISO to, easily, shoot with 5000 without an irritating level of noise).I have included a picture of our puppies, (Wesson and Clyde, they're Shorty Jack Russells) which was taken with this lens. They were standing with their faces in the evening sunlight coming in through the window. I told them they looked very handsome and needed to take their pictures; this worked out and is now one of my favorite pictures of them together.Thank GOD I had the autofocus lens again, because I probably couldn't have gotten them to hold still long enough to manually focus AND let the shutter/F-stop/ISO to really capture the contrast from the sunlight in their fur :-)Don't cheat yourself; buy this lens!

I got this lens for video use. I needed a lens that could do both wide angle and get a tight zoom without the need for changing lens. The build quality is okay for the price you're paying. Low light performance is mediocre when zoomed in for still shots, but for what I use it for it's really not a big factor. Image quality is acceptable for outdoor use during the daytime, but suffers a bit in low-light situations. Overall it's not a bad lens for what it can do and it's price point. You can get better lens that offer the same capabilities as this lens, but you're going to pay three or four times as much for them. This lens offers a very favorable value for money ratio. For video, where image quality isn't paramount this a lens worth having.
