I have used real stones in vases with plants with no problems. I have picked them up off the ground, bought them at big box stores, even ordered some from Amazon and used them all with no issues. Since the reviews on this product gushed about these synthetic rocks and some *specifically* mentioned their use with plants, I went ahead and placed them in with my Romeo and Juliet plants after rinsing them well. Big mistake. It turned them a sickly yellow in one day. I took the plastic pieces out of the vase, rinsed the roots thoroughly and replaced the water. The leaves have all fallen off and they haven't recovered after 30 days. I'm not sure if the plants are a lost cause. Right now they are just sticks in water. Hopefully, they will recover. I obviously need to be more wary of promotional reviews in the future.

These worked great for an artificial plant in my bedroom that I decorated in Zen.
