Wowtac W1 - Great, super light and small, rechargeable, powerful, pocket or keys, EDC
I really like this little lightWeight/size/use: This is the real story. It's very small and very comfortable. Much smaller than it looks in the pictures and super light. Very good for an EDC. I've been walking around with it in my vest pocket and forget that it's there. It has a lanyard hole so can be on keys if it needs to be. This one is going to find it's way into a smaller go-bag or everyday bag. I can also see this being a good light to give to my wife or attach to my dog's leash. The USB charging means we wont have to worry about finding batteries, just topping it off every once in a while.Button/ I like the button. Good size, good click, comfortable silicon. Actually, the more I use the button the more I like it. Also, it's easy to index. I would probably get in the habit of mechanically locking it out with a little twist of the head.Battery/charging: It uses and 16430 battery, a good lithium battery comes with it. It's enough power to make it all night in an emergency situation if you bounce between low and medium. It charges fine. Charging indicator works.Modes/Lumens: Modes and operation are very similar to the Olight it's pictured with. Which is a good thing. Press and hold for .05 lumen moonlight which is perfect for really dark places but not bright enough to alert other people. Double click for Turbo 500+lumens which is enough to completely fill a room. Then three basic levels in between.Reflector/Beam: The reflector has a mild orange peal texture and is surprisingly deep for the size. It creates a very small and bright hot spot with very large dim flood. I can see this get used a lot on low levels to find keys and stuff at night without the flood filling the room and waking up your partner, or on higher levels to pin point what your dog is barking at during a walk.LED/Color rendering/differentiation: The LED is a XP-G2 (CoolWhite). For many years this was my favorite LED and even though there are a lot of newer ones this works very well here. I don't know the exact CRI, but it always makes colors "pop" so differentiation is very easy. It's like a little search light.Anodization/knurling/bezel: Anodization is basic matte black but clean clean and well done. So is the knurling. What's cool is it has, what I believe is, a matte stainless steel bezel. I've already dropped it a couple times and feel like it's the kind of thing you may just throw in a pocket and will occasionally fall while you're fumbling with other stuff... It's about the size of a chapstick and I drop that all the time.Clip/hat/magnet: This is my favorite kind of clip. I wish more lights came with this. It's like a flattened S and can be clipped in either direction or on a hat with out changing it's position. The magnet is also very strong and can hold this light with a battery as well as another bigger light, also with a battery, dangling from it.Water proofing: So far so good. I left it in a glass of water for a while. No issues. Also, its been traveling with me during this health crisis so I wash it when I wash my hands thoroughly and also no issues.Box/packaging: Box is small and well secured. Instructions are simple and glossy.Weapon light?: It feels like a modified version would make an excellent pistol light for a compact Glock. It wouldn't need the magnet in this case.General impressions: Good, versatile light with a bunch of features that all work well, while still being super light and easy to throw in a bag or pocket and has a great UI that's simple enough for most people to use right away.

A New Favorite!
I already own a ThruNite T1 and am delighted to report the Wowtac W1 is comparable to my old favorite!Slightly smaller, it's more of a "thrower", so even though not nearly as bright as the T1 it appears brighter at the most common distances between 8 and 20 feet, with a nice white light that isn't at all green with a very dim spill. Low mode shouldn't disturb others and will be remembered if last used. Distinct stepping through low/med/high with a quick double-click to turbo will be preferred by many to the infinitely variable UI of the T1.Build quality is fine. There is no tailcap - the back half is one piece with a generous spring supporting the 659mAh 16340 cell. The brass button head need only be unscrewed a degree or two to lock out the light if desired. It comes with a clip as well as the tail magnet for hands-free options and though by no means a keychain light is close to ideal for EDC.The T1 still holds bragging rights but this Wowtac W1 is just as functional and wins the "best buy" value award!

Defective light
My son was looking for a flashlight that would be small enough to put in his pocket everyday, and stand up to teen use. We aren't huge flash light nerds, but like something with good bang for your buck. I have several thrunight products and hadn't honestly heard of Wowtac, but for the price the specs were impressive. He ordered it, and it was nothing but problems. The light would cycle through modes randomly. It would also dim and brighten randomly. It seemed to happen the most right after charging, then it would function normally towards the end of the charge cycle. I thought it might just be that he's not used this type of light before, so I checked it out, and it did the exact same thing for me. No indication that charging wasn't working properly, or any other indication of something wrong. Luckily another brand had an offer on a very similar product, and I just paid the extra $ so he could get something that will work for him reliably when he's at camp etc., and we are sending this one back. Can't recommend. There are an overwhelming number of choices on the market, and for just a smidgen more cash, you can get something that you know for a fact won't have to be returned, or have the hassle of dealing with warranty claims, so why bother. Just spend an extra $5 to $10 and save yourself the headache with this one.

Issues to be aware of (updated)
Updated - had this about 1.5 years. Lightly used. It would not turn on and the battery indicator showed red which means needs to be recharged. Indicator would not turn blue to indicate it was charged even after 12 hours. The light just stopped working and it was not due to a drop or some abuse. The battery was actually fine as I gave it to a friend with the same light and it was charged. Dropping my rating to 2.5 stars (rounding up to 3 stars) - it was inexpensive but did not last long. Would not purchase again. My original review is below.Have had this for about 3 months now and at the time purchased it was about $20.Pros - small, light weight, very EDC-able, economical, throws light from very low levels to pretty bright, (very versatile in that regard). I recommend this product.Cons - Works as advertised except 4 small gripes which did not bother me enough to return it.1) When cycling through low, medium, and high settings if I stop on the medium setting for a while it should cycle up the the high setting when depressed again. It does not instead defaulting to the low setting. It does cycle up through low, medium, high normally if I cycle through them without hesitating to long.2) The flap that protects the USB port can be pulled off too easily and its a beast to get back on again so be careful when opening the flap to recharge.3) The dual direction clip is a nice feature, but it's hard clipping it the brim of a typical baseball cap (it works just barely). This is an easy fix so hopefully they address it.4) The switch is a little mushy but does seem to function adequately.
