Perfect Indoor Security Camera—Essential for Peace of Mind on Vacation and Everyday Use!
I bought the Ecobee indoor smart camera along with the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera before leaving on vacation, and it’s been a fantastic addition to my home security setup. This camera allowed me to monitor multiple entry points in real-time while we were away, giving us total peace of mind.Reliable Monitoring for Every Entry Point:Setting up the camera was quick and straightforward, and I positioned it to cover a key entry point in the house. During our trip, the camera’s live feed and instant alerts let me check in anytime, providing an extra layer of security beyond just the doorbell camera. The clarity of the video feed was excellent, both day and night, and I could rely on it to see exactly what was happening at home.Great for Future Use:Now that we’re back, the camera is still proving invaluable. It seamlessly integrates with the Ecobee ecosystem, meaning I get alerts directly on my thermostat and other devices. I can also use it to check on our home in real-time, which is perfect for keeping an eye on things when I’m out. The fact that it doubles as a chime for the doorbell camera is an added bonus, making sure we’re alerted to any movement at the front door as well.Overall:Whether you’re going on vacation or just want to keep your home secure day-to-day, this Ecobee indoor smart camera is an outstanding investment. It’s reliable, easy to use, and gives you peace of mind, both when you’re home and away. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enhance their home security!

A capable Smart Camera, but it really requires the monthly Haven subscription to be useful
I’ve got to say I really like the SmartCamera. The video is clear, the night vision works well, and the 180° field of view is really nice. The virtual pan it does while following someone’s motion makes it seem like the camera is really physically tracking them (when “Person Detection” is enabled). The camera integration with Haven (for storing and showing recorded video) is really good. I’ve had no issues with it at all. Upload seems to be happening just fine (I have good WiFi coverage and a fast pipe into/out of the house). Playback is quick with no hiccups. With Haven I can get a notification on my phone when it detects motion, as well as look at past saved clips (2 minutes lone) in the history view.A nice thing is that the thumbnail image in the history view is from the point of detected motion/person, even though the saved video starts about 5 seconds before that. However, sometimes I see that the thumbnail is about half a second too soon – I have a bunch that just show a person’s arm (as they were walking into view), whereas half a second later the whole person would be in the frame.A downside is that the Camera seems completely useless without the monthly Haven subscription. I used it that way for a week before I activated the Haven 1 month trial. There seemed to be nothing I could do outside of looking at the camera live. It might have been nice for there to be at least the most recent detected activity available if Haven wasn’t in use. I plan to let the Haven subscription expire after the free month to again compare the available features without it. For instance, I’m pretty sure the ‘Activity’ tab on the app only appeared after I enabled Haven.I was also very surprised the ecobee.com account portal (non-app) doesn’t include the camera at all. That means the only way to view the camera it is with the phone app.The built-in Alexa is fine, but we really don't use it. The camera is in the front hall, and it sometimes picked up us talking to the Echo in our kitchen, so we ended up muting it's Alexa to avoid that .2 minor negatives:(1) the camera gets pretty warm. It pulls about 3.5W continuously while monitoring (during the day; I don't have the measurement from night vision mode).(2) it makes a loud click when turning on and off the night vision infrared lights. Turning on the lights near the camera makes it turn off the IR LEDs and make the noise. Depending upon where the camera is located, this noise could be annoying.I also had a minor issue setting up the camera. When my phone would switch to the temporary WiFi ssid the camera created, it would detect no Internet access and switch to phone data, causing the setup to timeout. Simply make sure your phone doesn't do that (turn on airplane mode, then re-enable WiFi, and then setup the camera).

Limited compatibility but well done
The media could not be loaded. Overall the camera provide a clear view that will meet the needs of most homeowners. Although this is an indoor camera, there is the window view option that allows you to place the camera in a window to capture the world outside. The night vision was pretty solid compared to other we have tested. The camera uses 3 high-powered infrared LEDs with mechanical ICR filter. It was able to spot our all black cat and zoom surprisingly close for nightvision. We found the camera to be very reliable even when we were away. The smart detection features were extremely accurate. The setup was relatively easy however we did have some challenges and things we felt could be improved upon with future updates. I think this is a solid start to the expanding ecobee ecco system. This will be a great option for people who already have a ecobee thermostat and want a very simple and easy to use home monitoring system. The biggest drawback I think for most people will be the monthly subscription. In order to access any of the video capturing features you will need to subscribe to their home monitoring program. Ecobee is at the beginning phases of rolling out their home monitoring product line. With that being said the product line is limited to the indoor camera, a few sensors and the thermostat. I think for most people adding an additional monthly fee for such a limited product line might be hard for people to justify the expense. One of the uniquire features of this camera is also one of the things I found least usefull and that was the Amazon smart assistant integration. You are far better off using a echo dot for voice commands. Where the feature is usefull is on the two way commincation where it acts as a baby monitor. Now for the setup process. We ran into a lot of hiccups here. Although the process is pretty straightforward we had a hard time connecting to the ecobee servers. In addition one thing I think could be solved for with a future update in the wifi network search. Unlike most smart devices where you will see a list of local networks, currently it is manual and you have to physically input your SSID. The setup also requires you to input your personal phone number which I think might be an issue for some people. With such a bold product statement as: “The indoor security camera that gives you more insight into your home.” I would have liked to see more features packed into the camera that actually give insight into your home like temperature, air quality ext.More advance home autiomation enthisists may find the camera limiting especially if you already have a home monitoring system, adding this camera at this time doesn’t seem like it would be worth the $180 price tag.
