34mm Gigabit Ethernet Laptop ExpressCard
It allowed me to add Gigabyte speed to my HP DV5-1119nr laptop at a very reasonable price. I did not need any drivers ( already has a realtek 10/100 card drivers ) it connect right away and it does not slow down the computer or CPU by adding the ExpressCard Adapter. It is made of metal and plastic, you need to by a slot adapter to make the 34 mm fit in a 54 mm slot. The Ethernet connector stands out a bit and can make it easy to snap off the end, if tugged or yanked.Overall performance is good, went from 20 to 30 MBPS download speeds to 84 to 97 MBPS download speeds. Copying 4 GB files from laptop to network share the took 2 to 3 hours now takes 3 minutes or less. Webpage load faster and surfing is more enjoyable. I know it is a 10 year old laptop but it runs Windows 7 64bit and with the Gigabyte adapter it work just as good or if not better than most current laptops.

Mostly Pleased
The product performs quite well. I was using USB to GigE adapters for generating Voice Over IP calls, and this card outperforms those adapters. I wanted to go this route because my USB adapters had cable breaks and I was looking for something that would stand up to frequent plugging and unplugging. This leads to my only complaint which is that the construction is a bit flimsy. I feel if I do not treat the card very delicately that it will break where the black meets the silver.

Does not work with OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion
While the description says this "works with most OS's," it is not recognized as an ethernet adapter by OS X 10.8. The device does appear, however the necessary driver is not found. I gave it three stars because it does not specifically say it will work with 10.8, and it looks like a quality product if your OS supports it.

Didn't Work for Me
This product didn't work for me due to the nature of it being pulled out each time I tried to disconnect the cord from it. Probably not the fault of the product, but the laptop, either way it was annoying. Also, anytime I reconnected it or opened my laptop cover after the machine was asleep, it would get hung up and eventually come back. I sent it back

It's ok
Ethernet works as expected. Slot retention is a little unreliable, but works as long as the card isn't bumped.

Realtek Chipset slow pfSense performance
I purchased this to use a old Dell laptop as a pfSense router. Though I had no idea what chipset this used until I got it, and sadly its Realtek and the pfSense support gets buggy poor performance with it.

needs a new driver for Macs
unfortunately not compatible with the latest version of Mac OS X (10.10 Yosemite), but their tech support department was very responsive in letting me know.

Startech Ethernet Expresscard Adapter Card for express slot
StarTech.com 1 Port ExpressCard Gigabit Laptop Ethernet NIC Network Adapter Card (EC1000S) I received it today and hooked up. It works well with Windows Vista. Negligible differences on speed changes. But I am well pleased so far.

VMWare
I took a punt on this as I couldn't find any clear information, but this card DOES work with VMWare ESXi 5.1. However, you may have to roll in the Realtek driver VIB into your build (mine was already there, but I am using the HP image and had added in a number of other VIBs). Card works well, performance is acceptable and doesn't seem to generate errors. ESXi 5.1 doesn't seem to support hot-plugging of the device, so a reboot of the environment is required, but then it works fine. The only other issue I've had (and I suspect this is due to the Expresscard form factor rather than the product itself) but when detaching the ethernet cable it is very easy to pull the whole card out of its socket in my HP laptop.

Excellent ExpressCard, 100% Linux Compatible
Bought this for my 17in laptop that I take to client sites on a daily basis. The internal ethernet interface port has become worn due to continually connecting/disconnecting ethernet cables resulting in a poor connection so I needed another interface, since the laptop has an Express Card slot I decided to look around for a suitable card.My laptop runs Kubuntu 12.10 64bit Edition (Ubuntu KDE variant), this card works right out the box, no messing with drivers, just plug it in and it is instantly seen by the Linux operating system and made available, connect an ethernet cable and you are ready to go!Hassle free networking for Linux systems, I highly recommend it.(Should work with all Ubuntu/Debian Linux variants)

Just works.
Works well, no issues. Being an older chipset, it is well supported by linux.

Perfect for converting an old laptop into a pfsense router.
Used this to turn an old Thinkpad into a pfsense router. No drivers, no hassle.
