This is a fingertip unit which uses 2 aaa batteries. It has a bright LCD screen which changes orientation according to position so that it is easier to read. I tested it against a unit I borrowed from a medical office and the readings were consistent. You push a button to start it, but it shuts itself off as soon as you take the finger out. It is less accurate if the finger is very cold, which is likely due to reduced blood flow. If the reading does not make sense, warm the hand in warm water or cloth.

This is an excellent tool. I am currently in hospital and can check my oxygen level against the ones they use in hospital. Very good quality I am very pleased with the product.
