This is a fabulous cookbook! Outstanding for the experienced, or beginner baker and cook.
If you bake bread, you need it. It will improve your skills even if you have been baking for decades. If you want to improve your Asian cooking skills, it is a great step by step teacher. The recipes for Mo and Xi’an-Style Braised Lamb Ro Jia Mao (Chinese Hamburgers) are worth the cost of the cookbook alone.Mo is basically a Chinese hamburger bun. The Rou jia mo is basically a sloppy joe filling made with lamb stew meat. (Anything that makes lamb super tasty is great in my opinion. I am not a big lamb fan.)I plan to try the Ro jia mo recipe with pork and with beef also.I have tried about half a dozen of the recipes so far. They all have been absolutely delicious and easy to execute if you follow the directions. They are plenty of illustrations to show you what the finished dish should look like and how it should be folded, tucked, rolled, etc. during the process.Normally, if I find one or two recipes that interest me in a cookbook, I am happy.I have so many recipes bookmarked to try I am going to have to just work my way through the cookbook one recipe at a time.I highly recommend you try the Crispy Chinese Sausage and Cilantro Pancakes. Yum! I did not have any Chinese Sausage, but I suspect just about any sausage will work. The four or five kinds I have tried so far using this recipe have made for outstanding pancakes. Just drizzle or dip them in a tiny bit of chili oil. Delicious.I love the recipe for Moo Shu Wrappers. Easy and delicious thin little wrappers (tortilla like wrappers) are the end result.Fabulous cookbook. Try it!

One of my favorite cookbooks!
First, I found this cookbook at the local library and kept borrowing it, so I finally decided to get my own copy, and I’m happy I did. This book includes not only bread recipes but also savory Chinese buns and dumplings (It's like "Buy one get one free"). With many beautiful photos, this book is enjoyable to read and inspires me to bake and cook. I love that some recipes have step-by-step photos, making them easy to follow. I recently bought a mold for mooncakes, so I am excited to try out her recipe soon!

Classic Chinese Bakery Treats!
Kristina’s recipes are authentic and well written. I made the milk bread dozens of times, mostly following the recipe directions and it ALWAYS comes out perfectly!! This book is a treasure trove for people who enjoy treats from the Chinese bakeries.

Comprehensive!
This book is thorough. I have not used these recipes yet, but after 4 decades of cooking, I have plenty of confidence in these recipes. The intro, recipe descriptions, and information on cultural baking customs make Mooncakes & Milkbread a comprehensive treatment of Chinese American baking as a subset of Chinese bakingSome cookbooks just list recipes. This one explores the culinary culture of Chinese bakeries in the US-a modern, western influenced tradition that is anthropologically discrete from other bakery traditions in the US.The book supplies practical information on how to make all parts of mixed foods. For example, the mooncake section explains how to salt the eggs, make the paste, make golden syrup and make lye water instead of buying any of it premade, though thats an option.Explanations are clear, frequent photos are in color and well laid out as a compliment to the text.

Fantastic Cookbook!
This cookbook is easy to follow and is beautifully illustrated. Love that it spoke about one of my favorite bakeries in San Francisco. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase!

Different and fun
I love to bake and I'm always looking for new things to challenge me. I've never made milk bread before and I'm not sure if I could ever look at another bread the same.I made the milk bread, it's light and fluffy and heavenly. Then I made the milk bread dough but into rolls filled with a coconut cream. These were a huge hit. I had to share with friends because they were dangerously good.I'm going to continue trying more of the recipes but the first two have been added to the arsenal of favorite recipes for my family.
